Customs officer promotes self to DCG, asked Hameed Ali to hand over to him

Nura Dahiru, an assistant superintendent of customs, on Monday promoted himself to the rank of deputy comptroller-general of Customs (DCG), claiming he was directed by President Muhammadu Buhari to assume the office of comptroller-general (CG).

Sources at the Customs headquarters in Abuja told TheCable that Dahiru walked in Monday morning wearing the new rank, and went into the office of Hameed Ali, the comptroller general.
“As he came in, officers were saluting him because he was wearing that rank,” one of the sources said.

“Sometime in May, he had posted on Facebook that he had been directed by the president to take over from Hameed Ali, and today when we saw him in the new rank, we thought, indeed, he has been promoted and so directed by the president. He went inside the CG’s office, sat in the waiting room, expecting the CG to handover to him.”

Joseph Attah, spokesman of customs, said Dahiru was not in the right frame of mind when he took the action.
“What happened was that, an assistant superintendent of Customs came to the office wearing the rank of a Deputy Comptroller General,” he said.
“From questions and answers that followed, it was obvious that he was not in the right frame of mind, so a doctor was immediately invited. He is presently undergoing medical examination at the medical unit of the service.”
Our source understands that Dahiru needed to be promoted at least nine times to rise to the height of comptroller-general.

Okowa celebrates 60th birthday with people with disabilities ... as Tambuwal, Ihedioha, Obaseki, Secondus describe occasion as unique

DELTA State Governor,  Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday (08/07/19), celebrated his 60th birthday with people with disabilities.

The celebration which saw a lot of people with disabilities in attendance, was also attended by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, Governors of Sokoto, Imo and Edo States, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, Sir Emeka Ihedioha and Mr Godwin Obaseki respectively.

Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral John Jona represented Governor Seriake Dickson at the ceremony which took place at the Event Centre, Asaba and was also, attended by former Governor James Ibori, former Deputy Governors of the state, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) and Chief Benjamin Elue.

Those who spoke at the occasion described the celebration as unique, noting that Governor Okowa is humble, focused and patient.

According to Governor Tambuwal, “Governor Okowa will remain the humble servant of the people; he is a good husband and a father, a gentleman, very honest and unassuming.”

“I congratulate the people of Delta for having him as Governor for a second term, and his decision to celebrate the birthday with people with disabilities is in his characteristics of giving hope to the hopeless,” Governor Tambuwal said.

To Sir Ihedioha, “Governor Okowa is calm to a fault but, you can only underestimate him to your own peril; he is also, a very humble man and we commend him for celebrating his birthday with people with disabilities. “

The Governor of Edo State was also, full of praises for Governor Okowa tracing his achievements to when he was a student of the Edo College, Benin City.

Former Governor James Ibori described the governor as a prayerful personality who believes that he cannot record success without God.

“I congratulate Governor Okowa; I thank God for your life; I thank God for your humility and we pray God will continue to uplift you because, I do know that you do everything with a clear conscience; continue to take decisions in the interest of humanity,” the governor said,  adding, “you can be firm when it requires firmness and you can be fair when it requires fairness.”

Governor Okowa in his speech, thanked the organisers for making it a pleasant surprise, disclosing that his intention was to celebrate the birthday solely with people who are living with disabilities

“I want to thank God for keeping me alive; my mother died at 43 and growing up to attain 60, I thank God,” the governor said and used the occasion to also, thank his wife,  Dame Edith and their children.

He disclosed that he decided to celebrate his 60th birthday with people with disabilities because, it was not their decision to be disabled, assuring that his administration will continue to pay special attention to their affairs.

Investors sign MoU to develop 7,000 hectares mega city from Warri

A major breakthrough to develop Mega City from Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, was on Tuesday June 25, reached with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to kick –start processes for the development of a 7,000 hectares of land and water into what would be called Delta-Ukpokiti Industrial City.

The MoU was signed at Warri South Council Main Secretariat between Finest Investment Limited and Partsmaster Overseas Limited, with Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, appending his imprimatur as witness.

Chief Charles Akeni, who spoke on behalf of one of the investors, Partsmaster Overseas Limited, stated that the proposed city would be bigger than Warri and Effurun Urban put together, with modern Industries, residential areas, railways, stadium and several other facilities associated with a 21st century Mega City like Dubai.

A former Local Government Chairman, Hon. Yomi Lapite, who also spoke briefly on behalf of one of the core investors, averred that the planned Delta –Ukpokiti Industrial City, “will surpass Dubai and Ukpokiti will come into world reckoning”, adding, “60% of unskilled labour will go to Ukpokiti Community”.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, while expressing delight with the signing of the MoU, assured that his administration will provide the necessary support so as to actualize the project.

Dr. Tidi who pledged to engage Royal Fathers and youths in the area with a view to making them key into the Mega City project, disclosed that the second edition of Warri Economic Summit will be staged October this year, with larger audience and renowned resource persons.

Pa Emmanuel Ugeh, the fallen Hero laid to rest

It was a celebration of life well spent of late Pa Emmanuel Edho Ugeh (JP) who was laid to rest on May 4th, 2019 in his hometown Emede, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state.
Dignitaries came far and near to witness the laying of the fallen “hero”. Late Pa Ugeh was born on May 5, 1925 in Umeh to the families of late Pa Ugeh Onwah of Emede and Mrs Afahoko Ugeh of Umeh town both of Isoko South Local Government Area.



He started his early education in 1938 and obtained his elementary and standard six in Isoko in 1945 and was baptized in the same year at Owodokpokpo by Rev Garbeitt and was confirmed at Bethel by Rev. C.J. Peterson. He started teaching while continuing his education with Teacher Training grade III certificate for the western region ministry of education in 1956.

By this time he had married his first wife, Mrs Rebecca Ayo Ugeh and bore him Patrick Oghenewede Ugeh an editor with This Day Newspaper (retired) and other three children in 1963, he got his Teachers grade II certificate for western region ministry of Education and completed his teacher training grade I in Asaba in 1963 and married his 2nd wife Mrs Grace Ugeh who bore him 4 children in 1965. Pa Ugeh taught for several years becoming headmaster in some of the schools he taught before joining the Nigerian Army on 23rd June, 1973.

Due to his love for education, in 1978 he enrolled in the correspondence and open studies unit, University of Lagos, Akoka for a Bachelor’s Degree programme but he could not complete it on health grounds.

He retired from the Nigerian Army in 1980 as a warrant officer. He joined the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in 1990 and retired on July 1, 2002, after which he relocated to his hometown where he lived until his death on 14th January, 2019.

Before then, Pa Emmanuel Ugeh always love to be up-to-date in the sphere of information, so he always listened to the news on radio and television. He was a kindhearted man who reached out to people and accommodated everyone. Because of his persistent fight for Justice, he was recognized by the Delta state government as Justice of Peace (JP)
He was the oldest man in his quarter, Okporo Odio, and 2nd oldest in Emede at the time of his transition.

He is survived by a wife Mrs Grace Ugeh, 8 children, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephew, nieces and cousins. Late Pa Emmanuel Ugeh is blessed with Mr Patrick O. Ugeh, Mrs Bessie Ebah, Miss Elo Ugeh, Mr Eniwotu Ugeh, Mr Samuel Ugeh, Lady Dr Patience Erigbe, Mrs Helen Aginwa and Mr Ewomazino Ugeh.

In a tribute, the eldest son, Mr Patrick Ugeh had described his father as a good man who is pure in heart and a disciplinarian with sharp intellect who taught them (the children) to be contented with whatever they had and that has shaped their lives positively.

Mrs Grace N. Ugeh, had described her husband, late Pa Emmanuel Edho Ugeh as a good husband and father. She concluded by saying that “if there is anything like reincarnation, I would love to come back to this world and choose you as my husband again”

Lady Dr Patience Ajirioghene Erigbe, she also described her father as a man who loves truth and taught them to be strong, contented and upright in all their dealings. She noted that as a loving father he always provides for them no matter the situation at hand, stressing that the Emede community are proud of her father because of his magnanimity.
“You were my friend and mentor whom I could shared all that bothered me with, but I feel so sad that you did not witness me getting to the peak of my career” she concluded.

UK alerts of terror attacks in Nigeria, warns citizens to avoid 24 states

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office on Tuesday gave a warning to its citizens on travel to some Nigerian states.

Around 117,000 British nationals visit Nigeria each year.

A statement on the UK government website said all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River States and 20km of the border with Niger in Zamfara State should be cancelled.

The FCO warned against all but essential travel to: Bauchi, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Kogi and within 20km of the border with Niger in Sokoto and Kebbi States, non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and
Abia States.

It added that: “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Nigeria. Most attacks occur in the northeast, particularly in Borno (including central Maiduguri and along access routes connecting the city to other major towns and along the Niger border, including in Damasak), Yobe, including the eastern LGAs bordering Borno State both north and south of the Damaturu road), and Adamawa States.

“There have also been significant attacks in Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Jos and Bauchi States and in the Federal capital, Abuja. The terrorist threat across eastern Yobe and Borno State is high, with frequent recent attacks. Terrorist groups carried out attacks in North East Nigeria during the February 2019 election period, and further attacks are likely. We continue to advise against all travel to Borno and Yobe States.

“On 23 February 2019, ISWA launched an attack involving indirect fire that resulted in explosions in multiple locations within Maiduguri.

“You should avoid places where crowds gather, including political meetings, religious gatherings and places of worship, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, transport hubs and camps for displaced people. Attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect western interests as well as places visited by tourists. Besides Abuja, other major towns and cities remain particularly at risk, including Kano and Kaduna. See Terrorism

“There’s a high threat of kidnap throughout Nigeria. Kidnaps can be motivated by criminality or terrorism and could be carried out for financial or political gain. See Terrorism and Criminal Kidnaps

“The security environment in the northeast has deteriorated since 2018 and there is a heightened risk of kidnap. Kidnaps in the northeast have included humanitarian and private sector workers. There are also reports that Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa (ISWA) are continuing to actively plan to kidnap foreigners.

“As well as in north-east Nigeria, this is believed to include some northern and middle belt states including Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Niger and Adamawa. If you’re working or travelling in areas where there is a Boko Haram or ISWA presence, especially in the north-east of Nigeria, you should be aware of the risk of terrorist kidnapping.

“There is also a high threat of criminal kidnap in the Niger Delta region and Kogi state.

“If you travel to areas to which the FCO advise against travel, you are particularly at risk and will need a high level of security. If you’re working in northern Nigeria you should make sure your employers provide an adequate level of security where you live and where you work, make sure they regularly review security arrangements and familiarise yourself with those plans.

“There have been recent attacks in Maiduguri, Baga, Monguno, Damasak and Rann in Borno State and in Gujba and Geidam LGAs in Yobe State. Further attacks are likely. We advise against all travel to Borno and Yobe States. See Local travel

“A number of kidnappings, including of foreigners, took place in Kano city in April 2018. We advise against all but essential travel to Kano state. If you’re in or around Kano city, we recommend you take added precautions.

“You should be aware of your surroundings and avoid large crowds and public demonstrations as they can turn violent unexpectedly and at short notice. Follow news reports and be alert to developments. Pa Mafeni laid to rest amidst tears, celebration

The remains of late Pa John Oghenewede Mafeni has been laid to rest amidst tears and celebration on the 1st June, 2019 at his home town, Uzere in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta state.
Late Pa John Oghenewede Mafeni was born on the 9th of March, 1930 and attended the famous St. Gregory's College Lagos from 1944-1949. He studied Civil Engineering at the Yaba College of Technology and worked with the Nigerian Railways Corporation where he rose to the position of Director, New Lines before his retirement serving as Ag. Managing Director on several occasions.
Late John Mafeni, until his death, was a man who detested injustice and was a devout catholic. He always craved for justice and fair play among the people surrounding him. Based on his philanthropic church activities, he served as the Chairman of the church building committee that delivered the new St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, Ajao estate, his local parish, in Lagos.
To which he gave most of his time in the twilight of his life. He also supported the Catholic Church in his hometown Uzere.

Further, he placed a very high premium on education such that not only his children received quality education but, because of his magnanimity, he also extended financial support to cover the education of the indigent children including relatives and others in the society.
The eldest son, Dr Jerome Mafeni and his second son, Mr. Norbert Mafeni described their father as a man whose exemplary life and character are worthy of emulation.
While speaking to Isoko Mirror, the sons had corroborated each other's statements, stressing that their father was a disciplined man, dedicated to his family and rendered humanitarian services to his community and society at large while serving God diligently.

Meanwhile, in their combined tribute, the entire children noted that “You taught us the strength of measured silence and conceding for peace sake was not sign of weakness". We learnt from you what true commitment entailed and honestly, we marvelled at the way God almighty worked his miracles in your life.
A member of the family, Chief Fidelis Adaka had described late Pa John Mafeni as a role model to their family.
“He was a role model to our family. He is humble and gentle and I must say that our family is known for sound education and longevity” he said.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Mafeni (nee Fischer), six children and fourteen grandchildren but unfortunately lost their first daughter by name Mary in 2015.  He is also survived by a stepmother, brother and sister namely Mrs. Edoka Mafeni, Mr. Anthony Mafeni and Mrs. Gladys Saka Shenanyon.

Ait/raypower shutdown: NUJ gives NBC 24-hour ultimatum to reopen stations

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has condemned the closure of AIT and RayPower FM by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC.

NUJ, which urged NBC to do the needful by reopening the stations within 24-hours, stated that the “action portends grave danger for Free Press and Independent Media.”

Recall that on Thursday, NBC suspended operations of Daar Communications, owners of AIT and RayPower FM over allegations of breaching Broadcasting Code. The statement signed by the President of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo and union’s National Secretary, Shuaibu Usman Leman, described NBC actions as unacceptable.

The statement read, “The Nigeria Union of Journalists is alarmed at the closure of AIT by the National Broadcasting Commission and believes that the action portends grave danger for Free Press and Independent Media.

“Independent and Pluralistic Media in a democracy like Nigeria serve to promote democracy by their dissemination of authentic information and ensuring transparency in governance.“We condemn this closure over allegations of breach of 2004 Broadcasting Code and insist there are better ways of sanctioning media organisations that are found to have erred.

“It will be helpful if the NBC will immediately reopens AIT to ensure that they continue to promote debate and opinions on issues that are of societal, economic and political importance to the nation.

“We expect them to do the needful in 24-hours,” the statement read.

Guidelines on LG funds takes off, as workers applaude FG

After the failure of state governors to stop the take-off of the guidelines issued by the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit on the operation of local government funds, the guideline has finally taken off to the admiration of local government workers across the country.

A Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital had rejected an application brought before it by the Akwa Ibom state government seeking to stop the commencement of the guideline which many have seen as a way of President Muhammadu Buhari bringing to bear local government autonomy in the country after state governors frustrated the passage of the local government autonomy bill by the National Assembly.


The local government workers under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC); are full of praises over the smooth take-off of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in the country.

The two unions commended the Federal Government and the financial institutions who have adhered strictly to the guidelines of the NFIU on Joint State-Local Government Account and local government funds.

President of NULGE, Comrade Ibrahim Khaleel, told journalists in Abuja that the smooth take-off of the guidelines and the way the banks have cooperated for its smooth take off was encouraging despite stiff opposition from the governors who were only bent on their selfish desires to mismanage funds meant for the local governments.

Khaleel said “the Federal Government, especially President Muhammadu Buhari should be commended for standing on the side of the people, rule of laws and the development of the country, by insisting on NFIU guidelines. Also, the Financial institutions must be commended for strict adherence to the rules, while we praise the Unit itself for leading the way in doing a very good job.”

The Guidelines issued by the agency commenced June 1, 2019 after the governors failed to secure a court order stopping its implementation.

The agency had on May 6, 2019, issued the guideline to reduce the vulnerabilities created by cash withdrawals from local government funds throughout the country and restored the full mandate of the operations of State/Local Government Joint Accounts to be used solely for the distribution of funds directly to the accounts of the local governments.

Banks were requested to ensure the full implementation of the guidelines with effect from June 1, 2019.

Comrade Khaleel said the NFIU initiative will halt the looting of local government funds and bring about development that have been lacking under the previous system, to the local government.

“Effective regulation of arbitrary withdrawals of local government funds by state governments from the joint local government/state joint accounts by the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), as we have seen with the take off now, would reduce looting of council finances,” he said.

The NULGE President described guideline as a giant step towards granting financial autonomy to local governments, saying he would do everything to see that his earlier promise to work with the relevant agencies of the Federal Government to ensure the successful implementation of the guidelines; is achieved.

NUJ felicitates with Gov. Okowa on successful inauguration, vows to strengthen good governance

 The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Delta State Council, has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and his deputy, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, on their successful inauguration for a second term in office.

The union is a statement signed by the Chair of the Council, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Secretary Comrade Churchill Oyowe, thanked God that the inauguration became a reality without any ugly incident, saying the mammoth crowd that graced the ceremony held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba was a reenactment of the electoral victory that gave the governor and his deputy second term ticket.

According to the council, the governor's Inaugural Day address was a signpost for strengthening and consolidating on the achievements recorded in his first term in office, saying the council expected nothing less and would join hands to doggedly prosecute the governor's good governance promise that will be responsive to the aspiration of Deltans.

"Our constitutional mandate as enshrined in Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, is to uphold the responsibility and accountability of the government to the people" the statement said, adding, "We are glad the governor has taken the initiative as in the past to herald his second term with a vow to continue with good governance and responsiveness. Okowa to swear in SSG, June 3

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa will on Monday [03-06-19] swear in the newly  appointed Secretary To State Government [SSG], Hon. Chiedu Ebie.

The ceremony  will take place at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba at 11.00am with guests expected to be seated at 10.30am.

Hon. Chiedu Ebie  who was the immediate past Commissioner for Basic and Primary Education was appointed  SSG on May 31, 2019.

In a statement signed 31-05-19  by the Permanent Secretary, Government House, MR. Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, Governor Okowa, also approved the following key appointments which take immediate effect:  Olorugun David Edevbie, Chief OF Staff; and Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Political Adviser.

LAGOS MAY 30TH -Urhobo Chiefs resident in Lagos under the aegis Urhobo Traditional Council of Chiefs Lagos has congratulated the newly sworn – in Lagos State Governor, His Excellency Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his successful election and inauguration as Lagos state Governor.

The Secretary of the group, Chief Godspower Ikpimi who spoke to journalists on the sideline at Tafawa Balewa Square Onikan, Lagos during the inauguration of His Excellency, Mr. Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday said the Governor landslide victory at the polls was a clear testament of the belief of Lagosians in the All Progressives Congress candidate to take the state to the next level.
He pointed out that the mandate given to Sanwo-Olu to lead the Centre of Excellence for the next four years is a great opportunity for him to leave his footprints on the sands of time.

“We sincerely congratulate His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for this landslide victory at the polls and inauguration as Lagos State Governor. Emerging as one of the chosen few to rise to the level of leader of the leading economic state in Africa is a massive achievement and an opportunity that can only come once in a life time,” he stated.

Chief Ikpimi said the victory of Sanwo-Olu as Lagos State Governor is not a surprise to them because they gave instructions to all Urhobos resident in Lagos, their loyalists and supporters to vote massively for Sanwo-Olu and this afforded him the deserved victory.
He promised that Urhobo Chiefs in Lagos had vowed to provide all necessary support to the Governor for the peace and growth of Lagos state, adding that despite being starved of funds during the last electioneering campaign, they do not relent in ensuring that the party emerged victorious in different parts of the state where its members reside.

He, however, lamented that despite their unflinching commitment and support to the All Progressive Congress in the state in all these years of their activities, achievements and contributions, their efforts have not been adequately recognized in term of empowerment, neither has it given us any appointment as a group to sustain and keep the group together.

While wishing the new Governor success, as Governor of Lagos State, the group appealed to him to take its members along in his government by giving them appointments either in his cabinet or board members in his government. .

Nigeria becomes the highest marijuana consuming country in Africa

Nigeria is now ranked number 1 on the list of highest marijuana consuming country in Africa.

The new report on what African country consume marijuana the most has been revealed in Global Cannabis Report: 2019 Industry Outlook.

Nigeria is the highest in Africa in marijuana consumption followed by Ethiopia.

According to the report by New Frontier Data, an analytics company specializing in the cannabis industry, Nigeria tops the list in the continent with 20.8 million Cannabis users.

The report ranked Nigeria number one in Africa with marijuana consumption by 20.8 million users followed by Ethiopia’s 7.1 million.

The report further ranks Egypt and DR Congo third and fourth with 5.9 million and 5 million users respectively.

In seventh place is Sudan with 2.7 million weed smokers followed by Madagascar’s 2.1 million users. Ghana has 2 million marijuana users.

"the purpose of the report is to support operators and investors in guiding business strategy by providing a macro view of cannabis use and legalization trends globally."

Sudan, which is ranked seventh has 2.7 million marijuana users followed by Madagascar’s 2.1 million users. Ghana has 2 million marijuana users.

Least marijuana consumers in Africa

The African countries with the least number of marijuana users include Zimbabwe, Malawi, Niger and Zambia with 1.1 million, 1.2 million, 1.2 million and 1.4 million users respectively

Patriarch Essi goes home amidst tears, joy

The life and times of Hon. Raphael Avuakeoghene Essi will without a doubt remain evergreen in the hearts of his loved ones.

The Essi patriarch who was bade final goodbye on May 10, 2019 at his hometown, Uzere Kingdom, Isoko South council area of Delta state, was aged 80, when he departed this world, last December 2018.

Although he lived to a very ripe age, the tears could not be held as the final rites of internment were performed.

He was once a teacher and an administrator and later held some managerial positions until his appointment as a lay judge in the Customary Courts Department attached to the district court in Uzere from 2000 to April 2013, when he retired, Pa Essi became the Odio Orere (a member of council of Edios) of Uruehe, a sub-community in Uzere in October 2017 till his death.

Meanwhile, in a tribute to her late father, the first daughter, Comrade Dr. Felida Essi said, "you taught us that no matter how offended we are, we should forgive the offender and let God fight our battles. And that in everything we do in life, we should always be perseverance and be patient."

Asked what she will miss most about him, the Comrade, who is the publisher of Isoko Mirror newspaper stated thus: "I will miss his comforting words, especially when I am down."

On his part, the first son, Rotarian Brooklyn Essi, expressed gratitude for all the many lessons, including "the importance of humility, education and the remarkable power of emotional and financial generosity," that he learnt from him (his father).

With the demise of his second son, Evang Jeff, Pa Essi is survived by a wife, nine children, including a step daughter, Mrs. Florence Emuobor and several sons and daughters in-law.

Other children are Mrs. Faith Ariekoko, Mrs. Efe Ubu, Rtn. Ifoghale Maaer, Bosco, Israel and Barr. Rafaela Essi. Also left behind, are 16 grandchildren and a brother, Mr. Ligourey Essi.

Children’s Day: Osanebi charges parents on care, love for children

Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Friday Ossai Osanebi has challenged parents not to loose focus on their task of raising God fearing children, urging them to fulfill their obligations to their children and shower them with care.

Osanebi droped the hint this morning in his message on this year’s children day celebration.

The Deputy Speaker said, when parents fulfill their obligation, the society will become a peaceful place and make the children grow into responsible adults and become great future leaders.

He congratulated children on their celebration that today, saying the occasion should remind parents to be more alive to their responsibilities and show much more love to their children and wards.

“Let me quickly congratulate our children, on this special day, a day packaged to specially celebrate these gifts from God and remember our obligations to our children and perhaps give much more care as we should, on this special day, May 27”.

“The care obligation to our children is a daily affair, but on this special day, we are reminded on the need to refocus on the obligations that we owe the children as parents,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker thanked the children of Delta for supporting the PDP led administration of the State and for influencing their parents to vote for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other PDP candidates in the last general election.

Osanebi added that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration of Delta State have continued to consolidate on programs and policies that will inculcate the right values in children, with free and compulsory education.

Children's Day: Tidi tasks parents on sound moral upbringing

Parents and guardians have been tasked on the need to build solid family units and inculcate sound moral values on their children and wards.                          Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi who gave the charge in a message to mark this year's children's day,quipped that since children are the future generation,it was necessary for the elderlies in the society to change the narrative of desperation for materialism to respect for merit,credibility and hardwork. 

                

According to the Warri South Council Boss,individuals and institutions should also create avenues for celebrating children with moral uprightness,penchant for academic excellence and apparent inventive instincts,saying it would go a long way in laying the foundation for Nigeria to attain industrial growth and infrastructural development.                          He admonished children to put God first in everything they do,adding that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and"wisdom is the principal thing as attested to by the scripture".
