that two women with one of them identified as Kate Ugwu have been arrested in
Igbo-eze local government area of Enugu state after allegedly selling a
two-day-old baby for N300, 000. It was gathered that the suspects were on their
way to drop of the baby whose mother is reported to be a 13-year-old when they
were apprehended. Ugwu confessed that she was contacted by a Ekwutosi Onodu who
stated that her 13-year-old sister was a new mother and the child was not
needed in their family. Quick to actiom, Ugwu reported to take the baby and
sell to a friend in Rivers state who promised to pay N300, 000 for the child,.
Kate stated that she was only helping a friend because the mother of the child

old. So i contacted a friend of mine in Rivers State who promised to pay the

UGC When asked how long she has been in the business, according to reports, Mrs
Kate said it was first time but the other suspect, Mrs. Ekwutosi said she was
telling lies and that she (Kate) is known for the business and that’s why she
was contacted. Reports also claim that the young mother of the child has been
rushed to the hospital after she was found bleeding in her sister, Ekwutosi's

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old girl, identified as Gift Daniel, alongside some human
traffickers, have been arrested by the police in Abia state. Daniel was said to
have sold her two-day-old baby for N670,000. She confessed to newsmen that she
sold her baby due to financial difficulties in her family.
