FG grants Delta permission to fix federal roads

…………… as Afe commends FG for approval

The Delta State Government has pleaded with commuters plying Benin-Warri-Sapele road to be patient with the contractor as it begins to fix the road.
The Commissioner for Works, James Augoye, made the appeal on Wednesday when he inspected the site to ascertain the level of work and plights of commuters.

He listed the federal roads whose failed portions would be rehabilitated by the state government as the Benin-Sapele, Benin-Onitsha and Agbor-Abraka-Eku roads.
He disclosed that the Federal Government had just granted its permission to rehabilitate the roads, adding that contractors had been mobilised to the site.

“You are aware that commuters are facing a lot of hardship on the roads; it has become so difficult to enter Onitsha, because the road at the Asaba end of the bridge is very bad.
“The good news is that Federal Government has reached out to us to repair these roads and we are very optimistic that by the time we are done, the government will attend to us for the purpose of refund.

In another development, the lawmaker representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Efe Afe has commended the Federal Government for granting Delta State Government approval to rehabilitate failed portions of the Federal Roads in the State.
Hon Afe said the Warri-Sapele-Benin Road is in a deplorable state, stressing that motorists and commuters suffer a lot on the road.
He added that the Adeje and mosogar Axis is worst hit by the failed portion.
The federal lawmaker enjoined the contractor to reconstruct about 100 kilometers of the road.
Hon Afe enjoined the federal Government to remit funds spent by the Delta State Government on the federal roads after completion , stressing that it would spur the Government of Delta state to carryout repairs on the failed portions of road when next the need arises .

" I urged the federal government to refund the  Money approved by the Delta state Government for repairs of  the failed portions of the Federal roads in Delta state in order to encourage the Delta state Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to approve funds to repair failed portions of the federal Government Roads in the state.
A lot of commuters and road users are suffering when Passing the Warri-Sapele- Benin Road especially the Adeje Axis".
While commending the federal Government for approving contracts for Roads across the Nation Worth over N182 Billion, Hon Afe lamented that Delta state which is producing large quantum of oil  was not considered in the Approval of Roads to be constructed across the six geopolitical zones.

He added that Delta state deserved more Developmental projects especially Roads construction.
He noted that most Federal roads in Delta  state are dilapidated and has affected some of the State roads which are being used as alternative for motorists .
Hon Afe noted that the Ughelli-Asaba Road which connects the State to the South- East is also in a deplorable state and needs the Federal government attention.
Hon Afe appealed to the Delta State Government to award the reconstruction of the Warri -Sapele-Benin road to competent contractor as the failed portions need the attention of professionals in order for it to withstand the test of time.
The Federal law maker  Representing  Okpe Sapele and Uvwie Federal constituency also enjoined the Delta state Government to rehabilitate the failed portions of  NPA - Effurun Expressway especially the Effurun roundabout axis stressing that motorists and commuters are finding it difficult to ply the road.
He urged the Police in the area to always deploy Traffic police officers to the failed portions to ease the traffic caused by the deplorable state of the road.
