The crisis plaguing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) takes a new twist as the embattled National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has reportedly travelled out of the country amidst the furore caused by his interrogation by the Department of State Security Services (DSS).
There were reports that he got bailed from the custody of the DSS by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, after a rigorous interrogation session that lasted nine (9) hours on Sunday and several more hours on Monday.
More reports suggest that he got interrogated because of many petitions sent to the DSS, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Presidency, arising from APC primary elections, which was very controversial in many states, with allegations of bribery and manipulation.
Sources claimed that the bulk of the petitions came from Imo, Ogun, Niger, and Zamfara States. There were also petitions from Kaduna, Bauchi, Adamawa, Delta, and Cross River States.
Following Oshiomhole’s hasty departure from the country, the APC and Presidency officials were reportedly huddled in discussions about the Chairman’s fate, and the damage that recent events could do to the party, ahead of the 2019 elections.
Meanwhile, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, confirmed to newsmen in Abuja, that Oshiomhole had travelled out of the country.
On the reported quizzing of the APC National Chairman by the DSS, Issa-Onilu said: “We do not have any information on this rumour. More so, the Chairman is not around in the country to confirm or deny this. As soon as we have any relevant information, you will be updated.”
Asked when Oshiomhole travelled, he stated: “He travelled last night (Tuesday night)”, but added that: “I do not have this information (as to where he travelled to). I do know, it is a scheduled personal trip he could not make last week, due to the November 2 deadline for the submission of Candidates.”
