Saving someone in need with your tithe, is not robbing God - Catholic priest

By Efemona Ogwara

A Catholic priest, Reverend Fr. Oluoma, has said using one's tithe in dire situation, especially to save lives, is not robbing God.

Father Oluoma stated this during a church service where he explained to members how to pay their tithes.

According to the Reverend, contrary to beliefs that tithes must be paid in the church, giving it to a needy person, such as an accident victim, will bring the same blessings that comes with paying in the church.

Many pastors have preached consistently that tithing in the church is the only way that can avert the penance for lack of payment.

However, Oluoma opined that any man of God who insists that you leave a person in need and bring your tithes only to church is "greedy".

Read his words: "If you are coming to the church with your tithe of 20,000, you just received your salary and on your way,you met an accident and somebody is almost going to die. If you don't intervene with that 20,000 the person will die and that's all the spare money you have.

"The other money you have have been allocated for feeding, school fees, so much so that if you touch any them, one aspect of your life will suffer, either your children will go hungry or they will not go to school. Carry that tithe of 20,000 and save the life of that person who is about dying.

"Then when you come to church, if the man of God calls for tithe payers, as others are coming, you should also come and receive your blessings because you have paid your tithe in the temple that was in trouble.

"I have heard some people say that if you give that tithe to the person dying, you have cheated God. It's not true, you have not cheated any God. You have only robbed a greedy man of God of excess. You have not cheated any God."
