Nkem, Ex-Minister’s Brother Bags 15
Years Jail
for Killing Wife
Mr. Nkem Iheanacho, brother to former Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel
Ihenaocho has been sentenced to 15 years jail for killing his wife, Regina.
The
presiding judge, Justice Raliat Adebiyi found Nkem guilty of killing his wife,
Regina as prescribed in Section 227 of Criminal Law of Lagos State.
In
sentencing the convict, Adebiyi described Nkem as an educated man who had
knowledge of the implications of his action pointing out that the convict had
responsibility to take care of the deceased and not to turn her into punching
bag or treat her like an animal.
Lawyer to
the convict, Mr. Spurgeon Ataene urged the court to temper justice with mercy
and gives the convict another opportunity since he is father of three.
Responding,
the prosecutor, Ms Olugasa urged the court to do substantial justice in the
case. Justice Adebiyi said her judgment is to serve as a lesson to others who
are fond of committing domestic violence to stop such act.
