Anthony “Ozimba” Grey Goes Home in Style
* Tony Grey was a philanthropist who fed beggers in the streets of
Warri – Kagho
* He was a disciplinarian – Mrs. Odjokpa
It was William John Shakespeare, the legendary Bard of Avon, who said,
“When beggars die no comets are seen. The heavens themselves blaze forth the
death of kings.” This evergreen quip best describes the great occasion that
attended the interment of Tony Grey at his palatial home in Warri Delta State
on the 29th june 2017.
Naturally it was a gathering of the movers and shakers of society. The
eclectic agglomeration of those ordinary yet special human beings that make
high society tick the way it does. People came from all walks of life. Kings
and their queens came to lend their glories to that of the deceased. And so did
princes and princesses of the land called Nigeria. Captains of industry put in
their own appearances, not to mention all kinds of professional groups,
especially of the entertainment industry: fellow musicians,
Pastor Ozonune Sunny assistant General Overseer,
Word Arena,
Pastor Gbahibi .E. Kelvin
and Pastor FlorenceOluwu (Mrs)
producers, record
label owners, night clubs proprietors, independent marketers, clubs DJs in
their colourful and contrasting paraphernalia.
And quite naturally too, the Performing Musicians Association of
Nigeria, PMAN, was the cynosure of all eyes as they rolled out the drums and
pulled out all the stops to pay one of their own the last respect. All the
acrimonies and the bellyaching of the past had been put behind them and the
organization forged a united front to celebrate their icon, the first musician
who had the singular honour of bringing the great organization to Delta State.
The pioneer President of the organization, Tony Okoroji, was on ground
live and direct, with delegates of the Delta State Government in their official
capacity.
Earlier at the service of songs, ecomium was poured on the life style
of Tony Grey, according to Mr. Cesear Kagho a journalist, he was a loveable,
talented man, he designed all his costumes and he was man of peace. Every
Sunday I use to follow him round warri, he would go to “akara” sellers and buy up everything, we would go round warri streets were there are beggers and fed them. ChiefTonyOkorojiChairman,COSON,

. I was privilege to have done that with him.
In her tribute, Mrs. Margaret T. Odjokpa said she knew Tony Grey to be
a disciplinarian. Even as he started his band from his flat, you as a band
man/boy dare not cross the boundary of music area, you dare not talk or harass any
of the band girls, sisters or guests, failure to comply to his rules and
regulations, you are immediately disciplined.
He made sure all his children are educated. He would tell them
education first before music. I know all these because I lived with him.
