Drama as police officers storm church arrest suspect while he was praying

Some police officers have stormed a church in Ogun state, arresting a suspect while the man was praying.
According to a report by New Telegraph, when operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) started tracking a suspected thief, they never bargained that they would find him in the house of God, fervent in prayers.

But this was exactly what played out between operatives and the suspect, David Olaniyan. Indeed, operatives were said to have been shocked and speechless when their tracking led to a church in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The suspects

The operatives were said to have started hunting Olaniyan, after some security guards attached to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to guard some construction materials from thieves, decided to become the thieves themselves.

When holy Olaniyan was tracked and arrested in the church, he led the operatives to his house to arrest the guards, who turned his home to hideout, waiting until the dust raised by their action had settled.

According to a police source, the suspects allegedly stole two 150 KVA Marapco generators, a vibrating machine and several other items.

Other suspects arrested along with Olaniyan are Mohammed Usman, Onomza Sani, Taminu Justice, Ayinde Okesade and Seun Okesade.

An IRT operative said: “We started hunting for the suspects after receiving instruction from the IG. The company petitioned the IG, saying that their guards stole some items in the company valued at N20 million. A team of operatives was deployed to Sango-Ota area of Ogun State. This team successfully identified and arrested Olaniyan, who is actually the receiver.

“He confessed during interrogations that he bought several items from the security guards, including bags of cement and rods. Not only was he engaged in buying such items from the guards, he also used to bring other buyers for them.

“The guards had already spent six days in Olaniyan’s home, hiding and waiting for the man who bought the generators and the vibrating machines to bring their money, before they were located and arrested.”

Speaking after his arrest, Olaniyan said: “I bought several bags of cement from Mohammed. He is the head of the security guards in the company. I used the cement in building my house. I used to pay him N1,500 per bag against the market price, which was N2,500. I also bought some iron rods. Trouble started for me after I brought one of my friends to buy a generator from Mohammed.”

Rather being remorseful after his arrest, Mohammed fumed and blamed the buyer for being the brain behind the collapse of his little empire.

The suspect said if the buyer had paid on time, he would have disappeared and police wouldn’t have been able to locate, let alone arrest him.

He said: “We initially didn’t have any intention of stealing the items it was Olaniyan’s brother (buyer) that lured us into committing the crime. What we invited him to buy from the site were scraps, which littered the site. But when he came, he saw the generators, a vibrating machine and some cables and insisted that he would buy them all.

“He offered to pay us N1.4 million for the goods; the money was tempting. I called my colleagues, explained the situation to them, we discussed and accepted his offer. He carried everything he wanted and we immediately also left the site. We alighted at Olaniyan’s place to wait for our money, but the buyer didn’t show up. If not for Olaniyan’s brother, who delayed our money, I would have been long gone before the company realised that their items were missing.”

Mohammed added that he came to Lagos in February 2018 and worked for the company as an Iron bender.

He said: “That was how I got the knowledge of selling the company’s cement. I wasn’t the only person stealing and selling the company’s cement. Olaniyan was one of my customers. We became very close because he pays me regularly. He doesn’t owe like others. My monthly salary back then was N30,000, but after working for just a few months, the company started downsizing. I was sacked as an iron bender. In August I begged to be retained. I was offered a job as a security guard and I accepted. I was made the head of the security and placed on a monthly salary of N28,000, with four other men working with me.

“Sometime in September, I had financial difficult and had to call on Olaniyan. I told him that there were scraps for sale. He brought a greedy man, who he introduced as his brother. The man got everyone of us into trouble.”

Court gives verdict on Delta APC Dec 4

The Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, will on December 4 know if he can fly the flag of the party in the 2019 governorship election, as a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday fixed the date to deliver its judgment in the suit seeking the nullification of the Delta State APC governorship primary held on September 30, 2018.
Justice Nnamdi Dimgba fixed the date Tuesday, after parties in the suit adopted and argued their written addresses.
The suit, which was filed by a former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ochei, specifically asked the court to nullify the APC governorship primary election that produced Ogboru as the candidate of the APC for the 2019 general election on the grounds that it contravened the judgment of the court.
Defendants in the suit include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC and Chief Ogboru.
At the last adjournment, Justice Dimgba fixed November 13 for adoption of all processes filed in respect of the case.
When the matter came up Tuesday, counsel to the first defendant (INEC), Ebuka Nwaneze, urged the court to dismiss the suit on the grounds that the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
“The jurisdiction confers on this court in pre-election matter is not applicable here,” he said
Similarly, counsel to APC, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), prayed the court to dismiss the originating summon in its entirety.
In opposing the suit, counsel to Ogboru (3rd defendant), Chief Nelson Imoh, said his client is objecting to the matter purely on point of law.
He argued that the court being a court of coordinate jurisdiction cannot sit on appeal on the judgment of Justice Chikere.
Responding, Ahmed Raji (SAN), counsel to the plaintiff, urged the court to dismiss the objections of the defendants on the grounds that they lack merit.
He insisted that the APC violated the judgment of Justice Chikere by using a different list of delegates to conduct the Delta State governorship primary other than the one that formed part of the consent judgment of the court.
After listening to the submissions of the counsel in the matter, Justice Dimgba fixed December 4 for judgment.
The plaintiff, in the suit averred that the Federal High Court judgment by Justice Anwuri Chikere delivered on June 19th in Abuja where the list of delegates of APC in Delta state was authenticated by the court was violated by the national leadership of the party to conduct the primary election.
Ochei said contrary to the contents of the judgment of the court, the APC leadership went out of its way to jettison the court judgment and used unknown delegates for the September 30th primary election.
He therefore asked the court to nullify the purported primary election on the grounds that it was unlawful, unjust and deliberately carried out in disregard of judicial sanctity.
The plaintiff also prayed the court for an order compelling the APC to immediately conduct a fresh primary election with the list of delegates endorsed in the consent judgment of the Federal High Court.
The governorship aspirant also prayed for an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC or its agents from accepting, recognising or utilising the name of Chief Ogboru who purportedly emerged as winner of the Delta State 2019 governorship primary election of 30th September, 2018.
In a 40-paragraph affidavit in support of the suit, the former speaker claimed that he was denied fair participation in the primary election in spite of his payment of N22.5 million for expression of interest and nomination forms.
He further averred that the order of court was brazenly violated by the national leadership of the APC in the conduct of the primary election by deviating from a subsisting court judgment and that unless the court intervenes, the governorship election in Delta State will produce a product of fraud.

How we outsmarted bokoharm to become undergraduates - Survivors

For John Ayuba, Nathan Ibrahim and Marcus Ali, all inmates of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Uhogua in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, life has somewhat been good to them. For years, the trios, from Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, were constantly moving from one place to the other in search of safety and a suitable place to further their studies.
The trio are now undergraduates. John, 20, is studying business administration at University of Benin; Nathan, 19, law at Edo University, Iyamho and Marcus, 21, medicine and surgery also at Edo University, Iyamho.
Ayuba, Pastor Omigie and Ali

John, recalling his life experiences while navigating his way to safety from the grip of the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in his Gwoza homeland in Borno State, could move the average listener to tears. One harrowing experience that he will not forget in a hurry was while escaping from the insurgents only to come face-to-face with another batch of the terror gangsters who shot at him at close range only missing their target by divine intervention. “We heard of the presence of the insurgents and, as I jumped over a high fence in my bid to escape, the structure fell on me. I got up immediately not minding the pains I was going through. As I moved in the direction of some chaps who I felt were part of us, a staccato of gunshots were directed at us. But to God be the glory, we escaped the onslaught”, he narrated. “I also recollect one occasion when, as we were escaping, the terrorists came after us polluting the nearby streams and rivers so that we will not have good water to drink. Most times, the soldiers that were posted to our locality to provide security were overpowered by the insurgents and, in their bid to escape, they pulled off their uniforms and begged us to give them our clothes with which to disguise”.
On the part of Nathan, he is the eldest of five kids of his parents but lost his dad in one of the deadly attacks of the insurgents, leaving him and his four siblings in the care of his mother who had it tough coping with taking adequate care of their needs. Marcus, also at a time, found himself in Abuja where he fell into the trap of a fraudster who promised to sponsor his education only to start acting strange. “Only God knows what would have happened to me if the evil man had achieved his aim,” the inmate submitted. The trio claimed that their coming to the IDP camp in Uhogua had made a positive change in their lives giving kudos to Pastor Solomon Folorunsho, the Camp Commandant, for his fatherly love and care for them. “Pastor Solomon Folorunsho is always encouraging us, motivating us and praying for us to attain unimaginable heights,” they chorused. They also showered him with praises for making all the kids in the camp to have the benefit of free education viz free books, free tuition, free feeding and free uniforms. Mrs. Evelyn Omigie, a care giver at the camp, gave thanks to God who made it possible for the youngsters to have a safe haven in the camp. “I give kudos to my pastor, Solomon Folorunsho, for the passion he has for the less privileged which made him to set up the camp,” she stated.

Annoying reason herdsmen gave before attacking Delta women on their farms

Women in Ewu-Urhobo community, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, have lamented alleged constant attacks on them by suspected herdsmen grazing cattle.
The women, who staged a protest and blocked Ewu-Edjokota Road on Monday, claimed that the herdsmen attacked them on their farms with machetes for refusing to allow cattle graze on their farm produce, Newsmen reported.

The protesting women disclosed that some of them had been raped or killed by the suspected herdsmen who escaped into the bush after perpetrating their heinous acts.
They said that the herdsmen always argued that all lands belong to President Muhammadu Buhari and so no one could stop them from grazing their cattle anywhere they deemed fit.
Women leader of the community, Mrs. Queen Dieseruvwe, who led the protest, disclosed that the herdsmen would usually say that “all lands in Nigeria, including our communal lands belong to President Muhammadu Buhari.”
She added, “They also claim that we have no rights to prevent them from grazing on our farms because President Muhammadu Buhari owns all the land in Nigeria, hence we cannot claim ownership of the land.
“They uproot our cassava, feed it to their herds and when you try to resist them, they attack you with machete and maim you if you are lucky as some others, or even shoot you.
“So, this is the reason we have barricaded the road as all efforts to reach the governor, police and other security agencies to evict these evil herdsmen from our community have been futile.”
One of the villagers disclosed that the recent killing of a woman on her farm was the immediate cause of the protest.
The woman identified as Mama Ufuoma said, “She (victim) was at her farm with one of her children weeding unknown to them that a group of herdsmen were within the vicinity. The herdsmen immediately pounced on her and tried to rape her.
“While trying to resist them amidst screams, they attacked her with their machetes leaving deep cuts on her and fled into the bush when people came to the scene. She was rushed to the hospital after losing a lot of blood, but died at the hospital.”

The crisis plaguing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) takes a new twist as the embattled National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has reportedly travelled out of the country amidst the furore caused by his interrogation by the Department of State Security Services (DSS).

There were reports that he got bailed from the custody of the DSS by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, after a rigorous interrogation session that lasted nine (9) hours on Sunday and several more hours on Monday.
