Isoko Protest against Heritage Energy Oil
Over Undemocratic Takeover of Company

By Michael Ekokoruwe
Isoko Nation led by the president general of Isoko Development Union Chief Iduh Amaidhe has staged a peaceful protest against Heritage Energy Oil Services Limited over undemocratic and forceful take over of the management of oil and gas company in Isoko from National Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) in Oleh, Isoko South local government area of Delta State.

The peaceful protest involving community representatives and president generals from Oleh, Uzere, Igbide, Olomoro, Otor – Owhe, Iyede, Akiewhe, Enwhe, Okpolo – Enwhe and Emevor communities went through old Olomoro road to the company’s premises in Oleh with placards displaying various inscriptions like ‘Enough is Enough’, ‘No Employment No Heritage’ and ‘We say No to Modern Slavery’.

The security operatives at the company stopped the protesters from entering the company’s premises and appealed for calm. Chief Amaidhe also appealed to the protesters to remain calm as information displayed on various placards have been noted by the security men while calling for a stake holders meeting to address the issue raised by Isoko people.

Captain G.M. Ado, the officer commanding Isoko Nation and Rtd captain Andrew Audu, the District security supervisor of Heritage Energy oil services limited, appealed for calm as he will report back to the company, stressing that arrangement to see various communities for dialogue and stakeholders meeting before commencing operation is in place.

Chief Iduh Amaidhe noted that stakeholders meeting of Isoko which will involve NPDC and Heritage Energy Oil, the local government, State government representatives and security agencies must be held to address unemployment and the development of Isoko land. He stated that Heritage Company coming to Isoko by force and through the back door is unacceptable.

Chief Iduh condemned the Company’s attitude of sidelining Isoko communities, the local and State government in taking over the company from NPDC, emphasizing that Isoko need peace and Heritage Energy Oil should not curse trouble using divide and rule system in Isoko land. He reiterated that Isoko people ‘Say NO’ to Heritage Energy Oil forceful takeover of the Company from NPDC as what is expected at the beginning has not been done.

He stated that, “on the 29th of November 2016, the Delta State governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa said, before the Company will take over from NPDC, stakeholders meeting of president generals of various communities, the government and security agencies should be held”, noting that contrary to the Governor Okowa’s instruction, Heritage Company was set to take over from NPDC today 20th March 2017.

He emphasized that Isoko Nation want the following issues to be addressed before Heritage Energy Oil commences operation. Youth unemployment, security surveillance of oil pipeline by the communities, scholarship and skill acquisition, visit to traditional rulers and employing indigenous contractors. Chief Iduh said, No dialogue and stake holder meeting, No operation. He added that the company should be wise and move their base of operation to Isoko land as instructed by the Vice President Professor Yemi Osimbajor.

Earlier, the president general of Oleh community Chief James Obeuwou who spoke for other president generals of Isoko said, it was alleged that Heritage Company has employed about 150 workers outside Isoko communities now been trained to commence work in Isoko land. He said, the Company has not been introduced to the host community of operation, stressing that Isoko people will not accept Heritage Energy Oil as a Company to oppress and curse confusion in Isoko land.

Nkem, Ex-Minister’s Brother Bags 15 Years Jail

for Killing Wife

Mr. Nkem Iheanacho, brother to former Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Ihenaocho has been sentenced to 15 years jail for killing his wife, Regina.
The presiding judge, Justice Raliat Adebiyi found Nkem guilty of killing his wife, Regina as prescribed in Section 227 of Criminal Law of Lagos State.
In sentencing the convict, Adebiyi described Nkem as an educated man who had knowledge of the implications of his action pointing out that the convict had responsibility to take care of the deceased and not to turn her into punching bag or treat her like an animal.
Lawyer to the convict, Mr. Spurgeon Ataene urged the court to temper justice with mercy and gives the convict another opportunity since he is father of three.

Responding, the prosecutor, Ms Olugasa urged the court to do substantial justice in the case. Justice Adebiyi said her judgment is to serve as a lesson to others who are fond of committing domestic violence to stop such act.

Olakpe Seeks Lagosian Cooperation to Curb Excesses

of Lastma Officials

By Simeon Okworide

The chief executives officer of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, AIG (Chief) Chris Olakpe mni (Rtd) has appealed to Lagosians to work in synergy with the officials of Lastma so as to curb the excesses of some of the officials whose  conduct are likely not in accordance with the act setting up Lastma.
He made this appeal on a radio programme on the 17th of March 2017 at Metro Fm 97.7 anchored by Cordilia Okpei while reacting to some of the issues raised by some callers who called into the programme to share some of their experiences with Lastma Officials.
Olakpe who frowned at some the excesses of some of his officials appealed to Lagosians to always co cooperate with the Lastma officials who are discharging their duties diligently, while encouraging members of the public to also report officials who indulge in criminal activities in order to smear the good name of Lastma.
He used the medium to give out some phone numbers to reach out to the public complaints unit of Lastma, stressing that he will do his best to bring sanity and instill discipline among the officials of the agency and pointed out that in some occasions when such reports of demeanour gets to him, such officers are asked to do frog jump for minutes as punishment to serve as deterrent to others who might want to indulge in such practices.

“In the course of the above we are discussing with the police and others security agencies for collaboration to decongest traffic in Lagos. We therefore urge you as members of the public to also cooperate with us in the course of discharging our duties” he said.
AIG (Chief) Chris Olakpe mni (Rtd)
