Delta police arrest handset robbers in Ughelli
By Ajuwa Victor, Asaba
Many people have lost their handsets to hoodlums at different times and places in the state and country at large.
Luck however ran out of two suspected handset thieves in Ughelli after they allegedly robbed a victim of his phone at about 8 to 9pm on the fateful day.
Reports available to Imirror says the suspects, four in number, are notorious handset robbers who always go about with dagger and other dangerous weapons, to attack people, particularly at night.
Imirror learnt that the suspects use motorcycle as their operational vehicle.
"On the fateful day, they had gone out at night, waiting for their victims. Suddenly, someone came their way, driving his car on a lonely road to his house. But on his way, he was blocked by the suspects and robbed of his handset and other valuables at dagger point.
"After collecting the victim’s handset, they demanded for his car keys, but the victim summoned courage and raised alarm that attracted some neighbours, who came in and gave the suspects a hot chase and then arrested three of them before they could jump on their waiting operational motorcycle," a source said.
According to a police source who did not want his name on print, the suspects had confessed to the crime and had been transferred to police headquarters in Asaba for further investigation.
