ACNPN Exco visits Ika south council,
SSG, as Ofume supports LGA autonomy
The Chairman Ika South Local Government Council, Delta
State, Hon. Fred Ofume has strongly supported the autonomy of Local Government
administration and its restructuring in order to correct the anomalies in the
system despite some Nigerians opposition because they strongly believe that it
will become an avenue for council officials to make more money for their
personal use.
Ofume disclosed this in Agbor when members of Community Newspaper
Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN) paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
He underscored the importance of information in any society
and charged members of the Association to be objective in their reportage and
always cross check their facts before publishing.
Fred Ofume commended ACNPN for the visit and enjoined them
to give adequate publicity to the programs and policies of Governor Ifeanyi
Arthur Okowa SMART Agenda.
He also emphasized that people lost hope in the leadership
of the council because they failed in the responsibility to provide social
amenities for the people.
Today Fred Ofume has changed the mindsets of the people by
providing those amenities needed by the people.
This was successful because the people are seeing the
dividend of their money from the revenue drive.
While on their vist to the
SSG the Chairman,
Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, (ACNPN) Delta State
Chapter, Comrade Jude Obiemenyego stressed that the vision of the association
is to be the best and leading body in information management.
He disclosed this when the association paid courtesy visit
to the secretary to the Delta State Government, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas in his
office, Asaba, stressing that good information machineries are veritable tools
and indispensable force for any people oriented government.
According to him ACNPN as the umbrella body for all creditble
community newpaper is registered with the corporate affair commission (CAC) has
primary responsibility of informing, entertaining sensitizing, upholding
professional ethics, promoting good governance, peaceful co-existence and state
unity through information dissemination.
Obiemenyego noted that people at the grass roots so much
believe in Community Newspapers because of there are the closest means of
information to the grass roots people.
On the part of the SSG, Festus Agas disclosed that his
office will partner with the association for better understanding of the
government activities, programmes, policies, to enable them reach out to the
people at the grass root.
He assured the publishers of reaching out to agencies in the
state to encourage community Newspapers, adding that his office will ensure
that the government will support the association in their forth coming security
summit.
Festus Agas however, called for the development of
agriculture since the Delta
State government has
queued into agriculture as the mainstay of the state’s economy.
According to the SSG, the nation’s economy relied on
agriculture before the advent of oil, stressing that it is the only key to
pulling the nation out of the present recession.
The SSG
further said that the administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa which has contributed
much in agricultural development, has empowered large number of Deltans through
YAGEP programme.
