Omovusu
blasts rumour mongers, says it is scandalous, despicable and uncontemplated
By Simeon Okworide
A management consultant
and non-politician, Dr. Amb. Vincent Omovusu has condemned in its entirety the
alleged purported rumour of N94billion Naira tax money diversion being spread
by some disgruntled elements just to tarnish the image of Hon. Joel Onowakpo
simply to scuttle his political ambition to contest as representative of the
Isoko Federal Constituency in the fourth coming 2019 General election is
worrisome and despicable.
Amb.Dr. Vincent Omovusu |
Dr. Omovusu stated this
while addressing some selected journalists in Lagaos to react to the purported
rumour making round that Hon. Onowakpo, during his tenure as chairman of the
Delta State board of Inland Revenue service DBIRS allegedly connived with
chevron Oil Company to divert the sum of 94billion naira tax money. He
nostalgically noted that Hon. Onowakpo has done creditably well, following his
achievements recorded so far, as chairman of DBIRS, and now as Federal inland
revenue service coordinator of Delta, Edo and Rivers states is something to
cheer about, stressing that it was his excellent performance at the state level
that endeared him to the chairman of FIRS, Mr. Fowler to appoint him in late
2015 as coordinator of Delta, Edo and Rivers states
respectively to boost the revenues collection of FIRS.
Dr. Omovusu while
expressing displeasure over the current situation of things in Isoko, he
reasoned that there is need to form alliance and put aside political divide,
nothing that because of selfish reason and greediness, some groups want to
dominate others without their input has created a serious problem for the Isoko
people which has brought chaotic situation and ushered in disaffection among
the Isoko people, whereas the Hausas and the Yorubas are holding all key
positions in the oil sector, yet the oil is in our land and wondered why the
rumour of money diversion is coming at a time when everyone is expected to
synergistically work in unity and fight for what belong to Isoko, instead, some
are busy castigating others, looking for whom to bring down.
Omovusu who was peeved
at the current situation in Isoko, just because it is an electioneering period,
has frowned at the attitude of the rumour mongers, appealing to them to desist
from such behavior and join hands with others to contribute positively to the
growth and development of Isoko in particular, Delta State and Nigeria in
general.
Dr. Omovusu who was
furious over the unfounded rumour being spread by a group of disgruntled
elements without contact address and phone numbers is a testimony to the fact
that these group of people do not mean well for the Isoko nation, and therefore
used the medium to call on the mouth piece of the Isoko nation, IDU, to condemn
this rumour tearing apart our nation in a strong term and preach peace and
unity among the people, noting that EFCC which is saddled with such
responsibility would have waded into the matter since 2015 when Onowakpo left
office as DBIRS chairman and wondered why such issue is rearing its ugly head
during this period of electioneering.
For the interest of
peace, unity, progress and development of Isoko nation, Dr. Omovusu also used
the medium to appeal to all Isoko stakeholders, including the traditional
rulers to critically look into this rumour making round and seek ways of
nipping it on board so that it should not be allowed to destroy the hard earned
unity of Isoko nation, stressing that, this will enhance the entire people of
Isoko nation to collectively fight for what belong to us because unity as they
say is “strength”
“I want to appeal to all
Isoko stakeholders, including our traditional rulers to always preach, unity,
peace and tranquility among us to enhance growth and development of Isoko
nation and warn those wanting to bring disaffection among us to desist from it.
Isoko nation belong to all of us, therefore all hands must be on deck and
collectively we will move Isoko to its rightful place among comity of ethnic
groups in Nigeria. On that basis we should not cast aspersion on ourselves just
because of selfish reason and greediness. Let us caution ourselves”, he
concluded.
