A Nigerian man named Egbunuche was sent to jail after a court found him and his son, Paul who is now 88 years old, guilty of plotting murder. Based on the outcome of his trial, he was condemned him to death. However, just before leaving office, former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, granted him state pardon.
The ex-convict who is 100 years old was given a warm reception outside the Enugu state maximum security prison. He was received by his only surviving daughter as well as the representatives of Global Society for Anti Corruption, members of the NGO which facilitated his release.
Former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha had granted him state pardon due to the pleas of the above mentioned NGO. Before this, the prisoner had spent 19 years in prison.
