President Buhari give Urhobo minister

Open letter to President Buhari

Dear excellency,

I wish to begin by congratulating Mr. President on his swearing in for a second term of office as the president and commander-in-chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A popular Urhobo Orator based in Lagos has called on President Mohammed Buhari to give Urhobo people a full minister in his second term.

The Urhobo are the largest ethnic group in Delta State and the fifth largest ethnic group in Nigeria.

Urhobo produce at least 64 million barrels of crude oil annually therefore, represent about 10% of the total national production, little or nothing to show for it.

Urhobo in all spheres of the nation’s economic and political life after more than forty years of oil and gas exploration in Urhobo land.

Nakpodia Efiawhare call on President Buhari to immortalise the souls of the 1063 that lost their lives at Jesse Fire disaster, Nigerian lives lost during the inferno by building a specialist hospital as a national monument at the site of the disaster.

Nakpodia also noted that the environment degradation, the loss of traditional occupations of the people, and the discrimination in employment and contracts.

The president should please correct the marginalisation of Urhobos in government, federal parastatals, including those located in Urhobo land, and the oil companies for more than forty years of oil production, gas flaring, oil spillage, emission from refineries, poor infrastructural development and unemployment of Urhobo sons and daughters.

We have educated men and women in different field that can help pilot the affairs of the nation as full minister.

Our sea ports, our glass company, refinery, power stations, federal roads, federal airport in Urhobo land should work like others in Nigeria.

Our youths are peace loving people and live in peace with our neighbours, and the herdsmen issue in Delta State should be addressed.

On the 9th Assembly, honourable members to please endorse Hon. Ovie Omo Agege as the deputy senate president, because he is versatile and a tested member of the upper house.

Finally, I also call on the president that it is the turn of Delta State to produce the next chairman and managing director of NDDC going by their alphabets of the state that formed the NDDC.

Godspower Nakpodia Efiawhare, GOFR.
