A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), in Delta state, Comrade Frank Esanubi, has declared readiness to counter thuggery during the 2019 polls.
Speaking at a press briefing in Warri Thursday, April 3, the aspirant called on the need for young people to take over the affairs of governance, while the elderly play advisory roles.
He explained that with the rise in global trends, having youths, who can better maximize technological innovations, as leaders, have become a necessity.
Esanubi, however, stated that only "capable and articulate" youths must be given this opportunity, so as to ensure even and sustainable development across the nation.
Addressing the challenge of electoral violence, the gubernatorial hopeful recalled ways used to chase away cultists in tertiary institutions some years ago, positing that such measures can be employed to tackle thuggery.
He described thuggery as a major challenge to free and fair elections.
According to him, the ADP has plans to bring in technical aids that will closely monitor the electoral process.
"It is a major problem. I believe it is an issue of perception. We are ready to counter thugs. We have plans to purchase drones and apart from normal agents, we would have secret agents with devices that can detect whatever will be done. We will get an application technology to collate results alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission, in order to compare," the comrade said.
