Nigerian who carried out US biggest tax fraud jailed

A Nigerian, Emmanuel Kazeem, who masterminded a plot to obtain millions in refunds from the United States Internal Revenue Service, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in Oregon.
Emmanuel Kazeem
Kazeem, 35, of Bowie, Maryland, was sentenced in Eugene, on Thursday 21-06-18 for a “vast conspiracy” of identity theft and tax fraud.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the convict bought personal information (including social security numbers and dates of birth) and used same to fraudulently file thousands of tax returns on behalf of unwitting victims.
“Emmanuel Kazeem orchestrated one of the largest tax fraud schemes in our nation’s history. The complexity of this case and the incredible effort by law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice cannot be understated,” Billy J. Williams, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, said.
Kazeem purchased more than 91,000 stolen identities from a Vietnamese hacker—who pried that information from an Oregon background check company’s private database.
Between 2012 and 2015, Kazeem and his co-conspirators filed over 10,000 fraudulent tax returns in an attempt to get over $91 million in refunds.
Not all of the fake returns were successful but out of a possible $91 million, Kazeem and his crew still managed to receive more than $11.6 million in refunds.
The lid over Kazeem’s fraudulent activities was blown open in 2013 after a Medford resident noticed that someone had filed false tax returns on behalf of her and her husband.
She alerted the Internal Revenue Service, IRS, which swung into action and was able to track down Kazeem.

Richest witch doctor who never misses church

  • Unlike a majority of witchdoctors, Annah Mutheu lives in an expensive house with a swimming pool and posh cars
  • Mutheu states that the Bible helps her heal patients and she never misses church on Sundays
She lives a life on the fast-lane. Her abode is a lavish home she estimates to be worth Sh40 million, she has a fleet of cars and often jets in and out of the country like a corporate high-flier.
At first, you would think she is a politician’s wife. But that is not the case.
Annah Mutheu is a witchdoctor.
While a majority of witchdoctors purport to make others rich, they are often stuck in the squalor of abject poverty, what with their matope houses. But not so with Mutheu. The class eight dropout who says she inherited the trade from her parents is not afraid to flaunt her wealth.
“Most people assume that witchdoctors are poor and lead miserable lives. That is not the case. I am a woman of means and my juju business has made me rich,” the former student at Katwii Primary School confessed to The Nairobian.
Surprisingly, Mutheu says the Bible helps her a lot in healing her clients and that she never misses church on Sundays.
The 39-year-old mother of three who prefers to be called, ‘the boss lady,’ revealed that she has invested heavily in her lavish house and looks, which in turn, have attracted more clients.
She invited The Nairobian to her home in Tala in Kangundo, Machakos County, where a swimming pool and posh cars take pride of place.
Mutheu's house
The home is a beehive of activity as clients stream in, while others patiently wait for ‘the boss lady’ who, however, clarifies that most of the wealth is from her businesses which she runs and not from her juju practice.
When asked how much she is worth, Mutheu reveals that, “My properties are countless since I also invest in real estate within the country. I have three lorries, three public service vehicles, three personal cars, a petrol station and plots in Nakuru, Nairobi, Mombasa, Malindi and here in Tala.”
“Most witchdoctors live in dirty places, which is a turn off. I decided to do my business differently. Clients are always streaming in seeking my services. You see, if you make them feel comfortable, they will always come back,” she said, adding that, “For example, a sofa set which is in the room where I treat my clients is worth Sh350,000. The room has more than one set.
The swimming pool
Mutheu says, “In a day, the minimum number of clients I get is receive is between 60 and 80.” She charges each Sh1,000 ‘consultation fee’ adding she never fails because “witchcraft is action.” Having at least 60 clients means she rakes in Sh60,000 a day from ‘consultation fee’ alone, which totals to Sh1.8 million a month. Her clients range from politicians, businessmen to corporate bigwigs.
For clients outside the country, Mutheu only requests their “pictures via WhatsApp or email and I could tell them their problems and heal them through the pictures.”
“My mother told me how to trade and she also told me that I can because when I was born, the spirit of witching was inside me. I have no regrets,” she says, adding that she has gotten rid of crime in her home town.

Nigerian man beats his mother to death during fight in US

The gallant operatives of the Unites State Police Department in Indiana state have apprehended a young Nigerian man for killing his own mother.

A 34-year-old man, Gabriel Bassey has been arrested in Indianapolis, the U.S state of Indiana, on preliminary murder charges after police say he killed his mother.
According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department news release, the accused and his 54-year-old mother, Patricia Bassey, were involved in a fight on Tuesday.
Suspect, Gabriel Bassey
The suspect called 911 on himself and told dispatchers he killed his mother during a fight.
MPD officers were dispatched to the 8000 block of East 20th Street, where they found Patricia suffering from apparent trauma.
Medics pronounced her dead. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.
When police interviewed Bassey at police headquarters, he confessed to killing his mother.
According to the affidavit, "Gabriel became enraged with his mother after she slapped him during an argument the night before. Shoved his mother onto the sofa and began hitting her in the face… when she fell to the floor face down he continued to assault her.”
Neighbors in the adjoining condos say they didn’t hear any signs of an assault, during which court documents show Gabriel told police he repeatedly kicked his mom in the torso.
Court records claim, “The assault concluded when Gabriel finally realized what he was doing to his mother, stopped and went upstairs to bed… leaving his mother face down but breathing.”
When he woke up on Wednesday the suspect said he, “found his mother was in the same position she was the night before, but she was not breathing.”
“This issue is one that does not discriminate,” said Catherine O’Connor with the Julian Center.
O’Connor says while most people think of domestic violence between a husband and wife, crimes involving children and parents are also common.
A search of police records doesn’t show any prior domestic violence history involving the suspect, but O’Connor says there are often warning signs before violence turns deadly.
“I hope big picture folks realize this is a problem that belongs to all of us. They likely know someone in a situation where they need help,” said O’Connor.
“Everyone plays a role in trying to stop it. This is something is important for every member of this community. Everyone has a role to play.” he added.
Gabriel was transported to the City-County Building prisoner intake for processing and he Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for a final charging decision.

2019: Cataclysmic effect of wars: let's choose peace
By Bobson Gbinije
“So long as mankind
Shall continue to lavish more
Praise upon its destroyers than
Upon its benefactors war shall
Remain the Chief Pursuit of
Ambitious minds”
EDWARD GIBBON (1737-1794)
Decline and fall of the Roman Empire

The relativistic and pluralistic coloration given to the TRUTH has always precipitated divisions, conflicts, controversies and wars. Hence, the first victim of war is the TRUTH. When the truth is murdered, hoodwinked, hara-kiried and suppressed in any collectivity it stimulates the instant death of peace redounding to war.

Within the context of usage, war is the unleashing of violent martial, political, socio-economic, religious, cultural etc. hostilities against another individual, nation or collectivity. War is fighting, expedition, crusade, jihad, insurgency, terrorism, armed conflict, battle, rebellion, revolution, uprising, offensive insurrection and attack etc.

The Peloponnesians wars, the 100 days war, the First and Second World Wars, the battle of tondibi, the Nigeria/Biafra Civil War(1967-1970), the Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, Sierra-Leone, Mali, Chad, Central African Republic, Islamic State (IS), Al-Shaba, Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda, Shite, Sunni Religious Wars, Libya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Yemen, Russia, America, Egypt, North and South Korea, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Middle East, India, Libya, Ukraine, China/Taiwan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Afghanistan, Syria Wars have turned our world into an oubliette of doom, death, disease, quagmire and an apocalyptic dungeon of hopelessness.

Wars have plunged and will continue to plunge mankind into the abyss and labyrinth of arrested development. It is the proverbial vulture of our world waiting to consume the carcasses of the dead. It brings out and unleashes brutish bestialities, sanguinary proclivities, Neanderthal brigandage, belligerent lunacy and genocidal decimations on helpless children, women and innocent men etc.

In the 21st century that boost of so-called modern civilization, with over 300,000 universities, over 1 billion Christians, 2 billion Muslims Buddhist, Hindus and nominal Traditionalists etc. It is a shame and a cadaverous disgrace that wars still remains the major means and ways of settling our differences. O’ what a hypocritical World! Seeing the evil of war the essayist Dr Finley Peter Dunne (1867-1937) posited in his book ‘WAR and WAR MAKERS’ that “I wish it could be fixed up, so the men that start the wars could do the Fighting”.

The Late Biafra war General Emeka Odumegu Ojukwu observed in his book ‘Because Am Involved’ that “Nobody Likes blood-letting, one would certainly wish there were no more wars in all parts of the world, because no war in history has ever solved the problem it set out to solve, eventually, whatever solution there is, emerges from a conference table, and not from the battle field. It is only those who have not been involved in a war that will always push war as the first solution to any problem. War does not solve, it cowers but the problem remains”.

The people of Ife-Modakeke, Urhobo / Itsekiri/ Ijaw, Tiv-Igala, Boko Haram insurgents etc seem not to have learnt their lessons about the futility and negative consequences of war. The People that cause the war and set the stage for the war do not fight. It is the common man, the flotsams and jetsam and the poor downtrodden that die in reckless battles. Hence, the statesman Winston Churchill (1874-1965) said that “Little did we guess that what has been called the century of the common man would witness as its outstanding feature more common men killing each other five centuries together in the history of the World”.

But in very rare cases when painstaking, mindboggling, intensively Saber-rattling and doggedly consummate dispute resolution and schism management alternatives has been exhaustively explored and exploited, men could be reluctantly compelled to resort to war in self-protection and self-preservation. But it is the established philosophy of the stoics and pacifists thinkers that on no ground and condition must war be fought. But Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) in his book ‘Mein Kampf’ said “it must be thoroughly understood that the lost land will never be won back by solemn appeals to the good God, nor by hopes in any League of Nations, but by the force of arms” and George Washington (1732-1799) said that “to be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace”. They preferred war wholly and partially, but war put an end to their lives ambitions and dreams.

The Totality of our world is sunken in the throes and cesspit of wars. The United Nations, African Union, Organization of American States, ECOWAS, ASEAN, Organization of Asia/Pacific Nations, Regional Bodies, National and State Bodies can no longer checkmate and deracinate the octopoidal tentacles of wars in our World. We call on our leaders, peoples and the global communitie.

Mamuzee twins neglect their mother for 17Yrs because pastor told them she's a witch

This morning, a very angry Daddy Showkey took to social media to call out singing duo, Mamuzee twins, for neglecting their mum until she died recently at Igando General Hospital in Lagos only for them to rush to social media to mourn her.

LIB reached out to Daddy Showkey moments after his post to find out what really happened and why he decided to call out his friends. H told us,
Quote
'no mind those bastard idiot boys, they are stupid idiots. Those boys abandoned their mother for 17 years because one idiot pastor tell them say their mama na witch. The mama wey born una, wey no kill una till una dey succesful, the woman born 10 children and all of una dey alive o'.
He also said;
'four days ago after they called me that the woman has been sick for a long time, I called the twins and told them to go and see their their mum and they said they are at a church in Warri doing 10 days fasting.
They even told me that its their pastor that's telling them to stay away from their mother because they've been married for years with no child. And I asked why didn't the woman who gave birth to 10 of you not kill any one? why didn't she kill us all when we were all struggling in Ajegunle and she was the only one taking care of us?
Daddy Showkey explained why he took to social media to call them out saying,
'I didn't intend to say anything about this issue but when I saw their post on Instagram, I dropped a comment on it and they deleted it, that's why i went on my page to call them out. Its so sad that they don't know the value of motherhood'.

Isoko reps 2019: time to pass the baton
By Alex Ovie
Leadership at whatever level of life or human endeavor could be likened to a relay race with the baton being passed from one person to another person. Ordinarily, most people love to cling to position of leadership for as long as possible because of the benefits and privileges that come with it hence they find it difficult to pass the baton when they have significantly played their part.
Leo Ogor
Power to such people is like an aphrodisiac, it is always irresistible and enticing. History is replete with examples of African leaders clinging to power for decades. Some of these leaders will rather prefer to die hanging on to power than to hand it over to someone else. The likes of Late Gen. Sani Abacha of Nigeria, Muamar Gaddafi of Libya, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Teodoro Obiang Nguemena of Equatorial Guinea, Joseph Kabila of Democratic Republic of Congo and a host of others readily comes to mind.
Recall that former president Olusegun Obasanjo attempted to extend his tenure beyond the stipulated two terms but the then National Assembly scuttled the plan. It would be accurate to state that the aims of these leaders who gained their position through democratic process are not to enhance the welfare of the people but to consolidate their hold on power by subverting democracy.
While in positions of power, such leaders do not spare a thought for the impoverished rather they amass enormous wealth more than enough to take care of their great-grand children. Besides, extended duration in power often establishes corruption networks and inequality as some groups or zones are excluded from partaking in the leadership circle.
Effective leadership needs to be anchored on the reality of immortality. This is the conscious leadership that should be embraced at all levels. We have our roles to play in every position of leadership we find ourselves, and when the time comes for us to vacate the stage, we must do so with gracefulness and promptness. Under no circumstances should leadership be regarded as a right or a family property.
The imperative to pass the baton to a credible successor was clearly emphasized by foremost Indian industrialist and co-founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy when he said, “When you run a part of the relay and pass on the baton, there is no sense of unfinished business in your mind. There is just the sense of having done your part to the best of your ability. That is it. The hope is to pass on the baton to somebody who will run faster and run a better marathon”.
Indeed, there is no gainsaying the fact that Rt. Hon. Leo Okuweh Ogor, incumbent member of the House of Representatives representing Isoko North/South Federal Constituency is known to be one of the highly respected federal lawmakers in the country today due to his valuable contributions to debates on the floor of the house. The minority leader of the House of Representatives has been representing Isoko North/South Federal Constituency of Delta State since 2003. Rt. Hon. Ogor commands enormous respect among his colleagues in the National Assembly on account of his outspokenness.
It is also a fact that Rt. Hon. Leo Ogor who hails from Isoko North will by the end of his present tenure have put 16 fruitful years of representation behind him. No doubt, Rt. Hon. Leo Ogor has done enough for Isoko people within the past 15 solid years and should be given some credit.
To be candid, the erudite lawmaker has fought his fight, he has run his race. He has the chance to leave behind a credible legacy if he decides to drop his rumoured re-election bid and bow out gracefully. Rt. Hon. Ogor has run his course and taken the ship of the Isoko Nation as far as he could. It is time to pass the baton. An accomplished leader must always be on the lookout for the next prospective relay runner. As it is often said, ‘Success without a successor is failure’.
Dale Burke, California based pastor and founder of Leverage Leadership captured it thus, “Nothing feels better than seeing a vision you helped to birth be passed on into the capable hands of others”. So many times, the vision, purpose or plan of God outlives a person, and in order to see it fulfilled, it must be successfully passed on to the next generation.
The import of this is that for a prolonged period of 16 years, Isoko South has faced exclusion when it comes to representation at the Federal House of Representatives. As a matter of fact, Isoko North has had a fair share. It is therefore politically expedient to balance the democratic equations in the upcoming 2019 National Assembly elections by conceding the House of Representatives slot to Isoko South.
Today, political leadership positions in most democracies in Africa including Nigeria are moving from being occupied by professional politicians and mediocres to technocrats, accomplished professionals and top rate executives in the private sector.
For instance, Delta State performing governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa before venturing into politics had excelled as Medical Director of Victory Medical Centre, Igbanke. Same could be said of Benedict Ayade of Cross Rivers State, a Professor of Environmental Microbiology at the Delta State University Abraka, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, formerly MD/CEO of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company a subsidiary of SPDC before becoming a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2003. Ibikunle Amosun (FCA), Ogun State governor formerly served Principal partner of Ibikunle Amosun and Co (Chattered Accountants) in Lagos.
One of such leading professionals who has his entry into the political landscape of Delta State is Sir Othihiwa Oghogho Ayodele (FCA), an accomplished Accountant who currently serves as Partner and Head, financial services Industry Audit Group at KPMG Nigeria.
The consummate Accountant who is also the president of the Association of Reporting Accountants and Auditors in the Capital Market, a body that coordinates the activities of all accounting professionals and service providers in the Capital Market, is seeking to represent Isoko Federal Constituency come 2019 at the House of Representatives.
Without prejudice to the competence and legitimacy of other aspirants nursing the ambition to represent Isoko Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Sir Othihiwa Oghogho Ayodele has the capacity to offer quality representation not only to Isoko but to Delta State and therefore deserves the support of Isoko people.
Judging by his antecedents, it is evident that the Owodokpokpo-Igbide born politician is quite passionate about the Isoko course. His speech on May 19, 2018 at the PDP Secretariat Oleh and Otor-Igho where he formally declared his intention to run is borne solely of innate drive for emancipation of the Isoko nation and never a gimmick intended whatsoever to attract unnecessary attention.
Sir Othihiwa is a man prepared and willing to build upon the foundation that is been laid for us by our great leader, Rt. Hon. Leo Ogor. A man prepared to promote the birth of a new Isoko which will earn us local and international respect.
Sir Othihiwa stated during his declaration that Isoko Nation is too endowed with natural resources for it to be riddling in poverty. Therefore, if given the mandate to represent Isoko Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, his leadership will be anchored on 5 cardinal programmes namely
  • Education and vocational skills development,
  • Constant agricultural programmes to improve the agricultural sector,
  • Sustainable human capital development and empowerment
  • Improved medical care and
  • Equitable and transparent execution of projects.
He is a dedicated and committed party man, an excellent team player, promise keeper and a thorough bred professional who has always been genuinely passionate about the plight of the Isoko people.
Therefore, for Isoko to be great again, it demands a progressive, vibrant, aggressive, innovative, visionary, intellectually sound and forward thinking representation which Sir Othihiwa Oghogho Ayodele is prepared and determined to give.
Alex Ovie, former Publicity Secretary, Isoko Development Union (2004-2006)
