Do not define power as military strength - Pope

Catholic Pontif, Pope Francis on Tuesday warned nations not measure their strength by their military capability to prevail over others.
“Some people speak in a loud voice, full of self-assurance with no doubts or hesitation. Others shout and hurl threats about using weapons, deploying troops and implementing strategies. That way they appear to be stronger,’’ he said in a homily at a Mass in the Estonian capital Tallinn.
Pope Francis
“But this is not about ‘seeking’ the will of God, but about gaining power so as to prevail over others,’’ he said near the end of a four-day swing through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
The pope did not elaborate. But nearly 30 years the three Baltics seceded from the Soviet Union, they look warily toward giant neighbour Russia.
All three now belong to NATO and the European Union; standards of living have risen significantly.
Prosperity is not the be-all and end-all, however, Pope Francis suggested in his homily. “You did not gain your freedom in order to end up as slaves of consumerism, individualism or the thirst for power or domination,’’ he said.
The three Baltics won independence after the end of World War One only to be annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940, occupied by Nazi Germany during World War Two and re-absorbed by the Soviet Union until its break-up in 1991.
Recent events in Russia, with which all three states share a land border, have brought on new jitters.
After Russia annexed Ukraine’s Crimea region in 2014 and fears grew Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania might be next on Moscow’s list, defence spending increased sharply and several thousand NATO soldiers were deployed in the Baltics.
The Baltics say they are victims of a sustained anti-Western disinformation campaign by Russia and subjected to regular intimidation tactics including cyber attacks – accusations which the Kremlin denies.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pope Francis said young people around the world were right to feel outrage at the Catholic Church’s handling of its sexual abuse scandals as it grapples with a wave of new cases in countries including Chile and Germany.
Francis has come under fire from victims groups and other members of the Church who say he has not done enough to make bishops accountable for mishandling or covering up abuse cases.
“They are outraged when they do not see clear condemnations of sexual and economic scandals,’’ he told 1,000 young people gathered in a Lutheran church in Tallinn.
He spoke hours before the Catholic Church in Germany was due to present a report on its sexual abuse record.
Its findings were leaked to German magazine Der Spiegel earlier this month and showed that nearly 1,700 of its clerics and priests had sexually abused 3,677 minors over a 70-year period ending in 2014.
A similar study in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania shook the American Catholic Church in August and the number of Chilean bishops who have resigned over a recent sex abuse scandal rose to seven.
Francis wrote an unprecedented letter to all Catholics in August, asking each one to help root out “this culture of death’’ and in 2017 said the Roman Catholic Church had “arrived late’’ in dealing with sexual abuse of children by priests.
Estonia, the last stop of the pope’s three-nation tour, has only about 4,500 Catholics, or about 0.4 per cent of the population of 1.3 million, according to a 2011 census.
A majority said they have no religious identification

Nigerian pilot sentenced to 15 years in prison

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday,September 20, 2018, secured the conviction and sentencing of one Jones Patrick Biyere, a pilot, to 13 years imprisonment before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The convict was arraigned sometime in 2006 on an amended 13-count charge bordering on conspiracy and exporting of forged cheques.
Biyere alongside one Tony Adeyemi and a man simply identified as Eddy, who are still at large, had, on May 31, 2006 in Lagos, fraudulently forged and signed 10 Lloyd’s TBS cheques with numbers 002108; 002104; 000096; 00091; 005263; 005260; 000147; 000144; 000546 and 000550.
The defendant was alleged to have attempted to export the said cheques to a foreign country through the offices of the United Parcel Services (UPS) situated at Somolu and Gbagada.
One of the counts reads:”That you, Jones Patrick Biyere (Alias Jimmy Johnson), Tony Adeyemi (at large) and Eddy (at large), on or about 31st May, 2006 at No. 15 Macarthy Street, Onikan, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court, fraudulently and knowingly forged Lioyds TSB Cheque No. 002108 and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 3(2) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap. 410 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended by Act No. 62 of 1999.”
Another count reads : “That you, Jones Patrick Biyere (Alias Jimmy Johnson), Tony Adeyemi (at large) and Eddy (at large), on or about 31st May, 2006, at No. 15 Macarthy Street, Onikan, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court, fraudulently and knowingly forged Lioyds TSB Cheque No. 002104 and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 3(2) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap.410 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990 as amended by Act No. 62 of 1999.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail.
In the course of the trial, the court had to revoke the bail in view of the defendant’s refusal to attend trial. The court had also frowned on the defendant’s bid to stall his trial by constantly changing his counsels who sought adjournments.
Delivering his judgment today, Justice Idris held that it was a ploy to continue to delay and frustrate the case, which he inherited from
two judges of the court.
The Judge further held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubts and found him guilty on counts 1 to 13.
The defendant was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on counts 1 to 11 and 15 years on counts 12 and 13.
The sentences are to run concurrently.

Female kidnapper says i don't regret my action,i love money

A female kidnap suspect, Fatima Muhammed says she has no regrets kidnapping the four-year-old son of Bukar Dalori, the Borno state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fatima made this known when she was paraded before newsmen shortly after her arrest in Maiduguri on Monday. Her words;
I committed the crime because I am in love with money.

“I have no regrets over the crime I committed and even if it is my own child I will kidnap him for money.
I know he is the son of the APC chairman; I took him because I want money (N20m) to go and enjoy myself somewhere. Why should I regret anything."
This lady is possessed and that is why arrogance has taken over her. Unless she submits herself for Deliverance, the demon that is inside her will destroy her in life and in Hell eventually. Sigh!

Igbuya, who was impeached and suspended indefinitely last year, for same allegations by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-dominated House, has since been recalled from suspension.

Rescind your decision on Paris club refund, Delta NLC appeals to FG

As workers embark on a nationwide strike starting today, September 27, the Delta State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has appealed to the Federal Government to rescind its earlier decision to withdraw the third tranche Paris Club refund .

NLC said the decision of the Federal Government to withdraw the refund was "worrisome", saying that local government workers and primary school teachers were already celebrating as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa pronounced the release of N5 billion to off set their salary arrears.

Rising from an emergency State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting of the NLC in Asaba, the union in a communique signed by the secretary, Innocent Ofuonyeadi also charged the Delta State Government not to renege on its promise to clear all arrears of salary owed workers.

"NLC Delta State Council appeals to the Federal Government to rescind its decision and let the Delta State Government fulfill her promise to off set local government workers' and primary school teachers' backlog of salaries. SEC also charged the Delta State Government to expeditiously meet her part of the bargain as requested by the Federal Government and clear every area of doubt with regards to London Paris Club refunds," the communique stated.

On the warning strike, the Delta NLC urged all its affiliate unions to adhere to the directive by the national leadership of NLC, adding that committees have been set up for effective monitoring and compliance across major cities of the state.

The communique charged leaders of affiliate unions to sensitize and mobilise their members for the warning strike "aimed at further reaffirming NLC's resolve for upward review of the minimum wage."

It said warning strike action has become necessary following the deliberate refusal of Federal Government "to re-commence the tripartite negotiating committee meeting to enable them finalise their report for onward transmission to the Federal Executive Council upon which a bill will be sent to the National Assembly to repeal the current N18,000.00 minimum wage regime."

Exam malpractice: Delsu expels 13 students, sanctions 5 others

Angered by increasing cases of examination malpractices in the institution, authorities of the Delta State University, DELSU, Abraka on Thursday expelled 13 of its students for allegedly indulging in examination malpractices. Five other students bagged indefinite suspension for gross misconducts.

The DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor Peretemode, who spoke to journalists in Abraka, said the expelled students were caught in examination malpractices during the first and second semesters, adding that “they were brought before the ethics and disciplinary committee of the university where they admitted their involvement in shady examination deals”.
Recall that the university’s vice chancellor had during the university’s matriculation ceremony earlier this year, warned students against examination malpractices, stressing that any student caught cheating in an examination would be expelled without delay.
On the five other students suspended indefinitely, the vice chancellor disclosed they would be subjected to writing an apology letter and letter of undertaking at the security unit, and made to visit the counseling center of the university.
“If the five students on indefinite suspension will have to undergo all the processes to show they have changed before they can be brought to the school,” he said.

FOR THE RECORD

2019 Elections and Security Challenges in Delta state and Nigeria
Being paper presented by Dr. N.I. Ezoem (FICA, FIPM, AAA, MNAE) provost, Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, chairman, committee of provosts, colleges of Education in Nigeria.
During the award ceremony organized by association of community Newspaper publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta state. At Swiss Spirit hotel, Asaba, Delta state Date: 5th July, 2018.
Introduction
Election as a process gives opportunity to citizens or individuals to freely choose their leaders at periodic intervals. Election is the right of the citizen to choose whoever they want to be in positions of authority. The principal mechanism for obtaining and translating consent into governmental authority is the holding of genuinely democratic elections. It there means that all democracies hold elections, but the question is “are all elections democratic”? Thus, for any democratically approved elected position, there must be an election. So there cannot be democracy without election.

Election in Nigeria
Since the return to democracy in Nigeria in 1999, there have been series of elections, majorly 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 general elections. Onotola (2008) sees democracy as a system of government characterized by the participation of the people through their freely elected representatives, by which the recognition and promotion of the basic rights of citizens, including the rights of vulnerable groups such as the minorities. This therefore means that, democracy ensure that power actually belongs to the people.
It is recorded according to Nta Lajo in edet and Mohammad (2015) that democracy in Nigeria has been bedeviled with poor party politics as a result of not only ethnicization of party politics, poor political leader, excessive westernization of the concept “democracy”, party indiscipline, lack of clear cut party ideologies, the politicization of the higher echelon of the military profession among others but also and worrisomely, lack of internal party democracy. Analyzing the extent to which elections are credible in Nigeria, Osaghae, Ikelegbe, Olarinmoye and Okhonwina (2011) captured relations between the political elite and the electorate and argued that political interest abandon the youths. Amadi, Imoh-Itah, Obomanu (2016) argue that the elite fail to fully recognize the reluctance of the youths in the economic development of the region (Niger Delta), hence the perverse rise in youth restiveness in the region which had taken several forms in pre and host post-election periods including militancy, abduction, vandalization of oil equipment etc. this trend has eaten into the fabric of the region as a result and largely accounts for repeated electoral violence as the youths are largely unemployed (UNEP, 2011). Ibeanu (2007) argued that insecurity in Nigeria has been an issue of increasing concern, it is harder to see in this argument how the argument how the guarantee of human security is during the electoral process.
Since 1999, elections in Nigeria have been facing security challenges as noted by Roger (2015) that 1999 and 2003 elections, part of the violence and insecurity in the conduct of the election was a result of the deployment of militants and cult groups. Aniekwe and Kushie (2011) contend that the acceptance of the 1999 election results marred by massive rigging was choiceness as there were no further options after over 30 years of military dictatorship. They also argued that 2003 elections level of acceptance was not based on its freeness but one of choosing from bad and worse. They argued that 2003 elections witnessed an unprecedented level of electoral violence. It was marred by massive violence and widely described as the worst elections since the return to democracy in 1999 (HRW) (2007). The 2011 general elections offered indications that better managed election can be more peaceful. Despite this recorded success, some part of the country recorded one security challenge or the other.
Ogundiya and Baba (2005) argued that electoral violence in Nigeria has been a central factor in evaluating the prospects and challenges of democracy consolidation in Nigeria. They chronicled a number of electoral crisis and violence pounding to the relevance of security.
Delta state and 2009 elections
It should be noted that Delta state is a Min-Nigeria and whoever happens in Nigeria usually manifest in the state; if not at a more dangerous proportion.
2019 general elections in Delta state and Nigeria at large, going by the tend of elections in Nigeria since the return to democracy in 1999, one should not expect anything different from what it used to be. This is because the elections are going to be conducted in the same Nigeria, by the same Nigerians, the same set of candidates with almost the same belief on how to get votes from the electorate. With this, the appropriate authorities should work assiduously to ensure security before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
2019 Elections And Security Challenges In Delta State And Nigeria
Security challenges during election period abound. Some of the security challenges during elections in Nigeria according to Agoha (2015) include:
1. Inadequate legal framework
2. Number of registered voters as against total number of accredited voters in determining the need to run for supplementary elections
3. The role of the judiciary in determining the voting outcome
4. The powers of the collation officers in determining the voting outcome
5. Deployment of military during elections
6. Financial autonomy viz a viz independent nature of electoral management body
7. Timing of the electoral risk management tool application and the depth of buy-in
8. Sustainability challenge
9. Monitoring and evaluation
10. Issue of migration, internal and external.
Most of these security challenges are likely to resurface during 2019 general elections as many of the challenges are yet to be attended to. Agoha (2015) points the following causes of electoral insecurity:
1. Poor performance of the electoral management body: public perceptions of INEC and allegations of bias by the commission;
2. Inadequate operational planning: Non-existence of operation level of implementation of the operational plan;
3. Inadequate funding, financing and budgeting: disbursement of funds to INEC for electoral activities and appropriateness of budget lines for the conduct of elections.
4. Inadequate electoral security arrangements: Non-existence of training plans for security and level of implementation of security training plans.
5. Poor training for election officials: Non-existence of operational planning for training of INEC permanent and hoc staff and sufficiency of training materials and manuals for poll workers training:
6. Poor voter information campaign;
7. Problematic voter registration:
8. Problematic registration of candidates including party primaries;
9. Conflict relating to changing power dynamics;
10. Presence of non-state armed actors: insurgency and internally displaced persons (IDPs);
11. Environmental hazards: Outbreak of infectious disease eg Ebola and report of inclement weather and flooding;
Conclusion
This opinion of mine cannot be concluded if I do not relate a harrowing experience I had with two politicians from Delta state. I happened to be in the same flight with two of them from Abuja to Benin. The two happen to come from the same local government area and the younger man (politician of note) went and bowed to greet the older one with hands stretched forward. The older politician all of a sudden went into outburst, insulting the younger man with unprintable words. The intervention of another former senator from another ethnic group in Delta state did not help matters. I was tongue-tied and overwhelmingly bemused because if this can be done now when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry. No elections now and this is being done. What will happen when elections come? So the politicians, who are the drivers of democracy, are usually the creators of insecurity during elections. While the electorate is planning for a free and fair process of electing their leaders, these politicians are busy planning to win at all cost irrespective of the regards for sanctity of peace and human soul. The major question is – if politicians are truly and selflessly serve the people that elected them to office, can they struggle to get to power at all cost? The answer is NO.
Conclusively, 2019 elections will be the sixth general elections in Nigeria since return to democracy in 1999. Other elections since then have been facing one security challenge or the other. Going by this, strict security measure should be taken INEC to curb the security challenges in the fourth coming 2019 general elections. Similarly, students/youths should note that being used as canon-folders by politicians during election for thuggery has never paid off- and can never pay off. At the end of every election, some lose their lives while others become abandoned like dust bin until next election. Please students/youths wise-up and avoid being used. Concentrate on your education because knowledge which is power will forever govern ignorance. In the same vein, our politicians should know that politics should not be a do-or-die game. Blood should not be split because of one’s selfish interest in acquisition of power at all cost. They should remember that life is not permanent how much more what life aspire for. Without the politicians, there will be no insecurity during elections because according to the Latins – “Nihil est in intellectu quod non est prius in sensu”. Nothing passes to the intellect without first getting to the senses. Be wise and fear God. I am done.

Thanks for listening.

Nigeria will continue to experience bloodshed unless an altar is raised, says Apostle Chimezie

The founder of Nigeria Ministers Project and Apostolic Discipleship Project (ADPRO), Apostle Fidel Chimezie has warned that the country will continue to witness bloodshed in any guise unless an altar is raised to counter it.
Apostle Chimezie said this in an interview with Sunday Telegraph stressing that God woke her up recently and gave her a word for Nigerians concerning the Independence day.
Apostle Fidel Chimezie
“God said the Independence day was celebrated at Tarawa Balewa Square on October 1st 1960, He said we should know that the people in power then did not know Christ and were not Christians that their belief then was that before they could attain to any office they need an altar to carry them so they visited marine kingdom ahead of that day to empower them which means the altar over Nigeria is from the marine world”, she said.
The cleric said God told her to raise Him 72 prophets that will stand on October 1st to undo what was done in 1960 which is the error committed by Nigeria’s past leaders over the land at TBS.
“He said because of that singular error the marine kingdom has entered the land to deal with the offices of our leaders, most of them have good intentions for this country but because of the marine seat and the power over the land they tend to misbehave”
According to her the 72 prophets will raise N3,200 each to consecrate the blood of Jesus Christ irrespective of their denominations so far they are an ordained ministers of God.
“God said we should come together in agreement and three out of us will carry the blood token which represents the blood of Jesus to TBS to undo all the errors done on the land. Each of us will be given an assignment to conduct crusade across the states and if we continue that for three months our country will be free of all marine manipulation and influence. All the blood letting insurgencies we’ve been witnessing in the land are due to what our forefathers have done, they raised an altar with blood”, she said.
She also disclosed that God told her that seven human heads were buried in Lokoja close to the river stressing that if anyone raise an altar with blood the evil spirits will keep demanding for more blood.
“I remember also that there was a time they raised an altar with the blood of the Ibos because they said Igbo people are the ones stopping them from Islamising Nigeria so God told me to go to Aba in the middle of the night and raise an altar for Him which I did and the following day an election was cancelled in Abia state which could have caused a lot of negative reactions but because prayers have been said and blood of Jesus Christ sprinkled on the land, there was no bloodshed and everywhere was calm.I am calling on everyone that loves Nigeria to join me to rescue this nation”, she said.
Chimezie said concerning this year’s independence day celebration federal government should refrain from throwing any form of jamboree but should rather come down to the needs of the poor masses by organising empowerment programme for poor people on that day.

Edo pastor arrested for human trafficking

A pastor in Edo state, South-south Nigeria, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in human trafficking.

The man, Marvelous Odalo, is said to be the General Overseer of Mega Charismatic Fire Ministry in the state.

Mr Odalo was arrested alongside his accomplice by the Edo State Taskforce against Human Trafficking for allegedly conniving with a sponsor in Russia to traffic a 22-year-old girl from the state, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Edo state government.

The government claimed the arrest followed a tipoff from the girl.

The government did not reveal the victim’s name but said she has since returned to Edo state from Russia.

The victim, according to the statement, claimed she and her sister were deceived by the pastor and his accomplice.

“The pastor asked me to stand on top a white handkerchief and N1000 note on the altar. He asked me to repeat what he was saying and that if I refuse to pay my madam, something bad will happen to me,” she was quoted to have said.

“I was asked to pay U.S $50,000.

“They told me that I was going to meet a woman who is pregnant in Russia and that I will assist her with domestic chores. They said I will also be working as a stylist in her saloon.

“I will pay them that amount since the work is thriving there. I never knew that the lady was neither pregnant nor married. When I got there, it was a different ball game. I was forced to engage in prostitution in Russia which I resisted, I rejected it and told them I will rather go home than sell my body to satisfy one greedy woman.”

She said she later met a Nigerian in Russia, who introduced her to an aide to Edo governor on human trafficking, Solomon Okoduwa, who took her matter up in Nigeria.

The victim said since she came back to Nigeria she has been receiving threats from her ‘madam’, demanding for the money spent on the journey to Russia.

She thanked the Edo State government for coming to her rescue and appealed for the government to intervene and help stop the threat to her life, as well as help her start up a business to enable her to earn a decent living.

The governor’s aide, Mr Okoduwa, who facilitated the arrest, said the pastor and a woman who is an accomplice have been handed over to the Special Investigation Unit attached to the Government House for further investigation.

Edo is one of the worst hit states in Nigeria by human trafficking.

The administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the state has drawn commendations for its effort in tackling the menace.

Popular prophet gives shocking presidential prophecy regarding Saraki

Primate Elijah Ayodele, a popular Nigerian prophet has made the news after predicting that Bukola Saraki will rule Nigeria.
The Prophet who is the head of  INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, sat down for an interview with THE SUN in which he predicted that Saraki would rule Nigeria for four years and would put things right.
Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele
When asked what Saraki’s mission was, the prophet said in the interview: “He will rule for just four years and put the country in order. I am talking as a prophet of God. I said in 2015 that so many things will happen in Buhari’s administration and it has happened. If PDP puts their house in order; that is what will defeat any party.
“If PDP wants to do well, let them be united, and know what they are doing and do the right thing. I don’t belong to any party.”
The prophet also added: “Most people who are defecting will still land in jail because judgment is coming to all Nigerian leaders. Those who are defecting now are not seeing the consequences ahead of them.
The fore-fathers of this nation are not asleep; they want to revenge, we have done a lot of blood sacrifice and that is why things are happening like this.”
The interview took a chilling turn when Ayodele predicted that Nigeria would still suffer from at least 3 Boko Haram iterations
“Another set of three different Boko Haram is coming to Nigeria; let’s just watch and see what will happen. I fear nobody because God has sent me; anything that happens, let the will of God be done. Nobody is talking about the economy? There is poverty and hunger in the country; nobody is talking about it.” He said.

Saraki will be hoping to win the PDP Presidential ticket for 2019 after returning his nomination forms.

Nigerian British twins who invented their own cryptocurrency, worth billions of naira

Nigerian British twins, Sam and Steve Williams, have taken over the internet with their touching story, as the 39-year-old twins are being celebrated for creating one of the world's leading cryptocurrencies.
Two identical twins once ‘on the fringes’ of gangs in south London are now worth more than £41 million.
Sam and Steve Nico Williams, 38, launched the cryptocurrency Populous (PPT) which is the 52nd most valuable cryptocurrency token in the world.
Their other investments include a stake in the Michelin-starred Restaurant Story in London Bridge, and a London estate agency chain.

They rub shoulders with 50 Cent and former world boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and say their ‘hard work has paid off’.
The brothers, from Brockley, both attended Crofton Comprehensive in Lewisham, now renamed Prendergast Ladywell School, where 22% of pupils get free school meals and exam passes are well below the national average
Their mother, a chef, and their father, an accountant, moved to the UK from Nigeria and worked long hours to provide for their sons.
But Steve says he fell into the wrong crowd for a while, and 12 years ago was convicted of obtaining money by deception.

Steve said: ‘It was a major wake-up call and I had plenty of time to think about what I was going to do with my life. I made a big mistake and I paid for it.
‘I knew I had to turn my life around and work hard to achieve a good life for me and my family. I also want to give back by helping youths on the streets and those involved in street crime and I hope to inspire and create positive opportunities for them.’
Steve, described as ‘the brains’ behind Populous, is a commercial data expert and studied a GNVQ in Advanced Business at Crofton Comprehensive School in Lewisham.
Sam excelled at computer programming at the same school’s sixth form.

After leaving school, the brothers started various businesses such as Tramp, a lifestyle and concierge magazine, and researched financial markets and data, before they decided to move into cryptocurrency.
They worked solidly for four years to build the blockchain code for their tokens on their mum’s kitchen table in Brockley and were shocked by the huge success when Steve put the Populous (PPT) token on the market in June 2017.
They originally thought it might raise a few thousand pounds, but 24 hours later they had assets worth £1.85 million in Ethereum digital currency.

Sam said: ‘The success Populous has exceeded all expectations – we thought it would do well but this has been phenomenal.
‘We had been involved on the fringes of gangs as teenagers when we were growing up in South London – but it’s fair to say that our lifestyles have changed completely in the past year.’
The brothers have released 37 million PPT tokens to have funds to develop the coin further and retained 16 million PPT tokens which are currently trading at $3.42 which makes their current net worth £41.76 million, according to the CoinMarketCap table of the world’s leading cryptocurrencies.
Populous is an invoice discounting platform that helps small and medium-sized businesses with cash flow problems to raise finance against invoices from the crypto community.
The value of cryptocurrencies changes daily, but all of Populous’ early investors have made a fortune.
At the peak of the crypto market back in March 2018, the brothers were worth up to £1 billion when the coin peaked at $68.91 but there has been a steep market change downwards since then. Even now, with the market at its lowest ebb, they are still sitting on a fortune worth tens of millions.
The Williams brothers’ business operations are located in Mayfair’s exclusive Berkeley Square. They also own a stake in Tom Sellers’ critically acclaimed Michelin-starred Restaurant Story in London – famous for its 10-course set menu.
Speculation in cryptocurrencies has shot up in the past 18 months and the biggest and best known currency, Bitcoin, reached a value of $20,000 earlier this year, though it has since slumped back to just over $6,400.

Major banks are now getting involved in trading cryptocurrencies and Goldman Sachs launched a Crypto trading desk in May this year to capitalise on the huge growth of this market.

Nigerian man sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for marrying South African lady to obtain citizenship

A Nigerian man identified as Chinedu Obasi, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, after he was found guilty of marrying a South African lady to obtain citizenship but not living with her.
It is gathered that he was arraigned alongside one Obioma Abba, for running a brothel and a human trafficking syndicate. While Obasi was sentenced to 18 years for marrying a South African woman to obtain citizenship but not living with her, an offence which contravenes the Immigration Act, Obioma was sentenced to 12 years’ effective imprisonment on two charges of human trafficking.

It is further learnt that they were arrested in August after some of the sex workers escaped and alerted the police that they were held against their wish and converted to sex workers. During their trial, two sex workers testified against Obioma and Obasi, revealing how the duo plied them with drugs and held them captive in the flat, only allowing them to go out at night to work as prostitutes.

The Judge said although the two women who worked as prostitutes for the brothers were exposed to a lot of trauma, they were already in the sex trade and hooked on drugs when they were recruited by the brothers. The women have since been rehabilitated from drugs and they have obtained good jobs. However, during the trial, they were under the state’s witness protection plan for their own safety. They also could not face their pimps in court as they were too afraid. They testified about their dark lives on the streets via closed-circuit television from an adjacent room.
