The
(NUT), Isoko South Chapter celebrate their Tailors Week 2017, donates food
items to Ugholeh Orphanage home and used the event to call on the Delta State
Government to checkmate fake tax collectors in the state.
Addressing
newsmen after presentation of food items to Ugholeh Orphanage Home, Oleh, the
Chairman of the Isoko South Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Tailors, Comrade
Otobo Emmanuel asserted that, “we are celebrating Tailors week all over Delta
State from on the 24th to the 30th of April. You will see
what you are seeing here now in every local government in the state”.
Comrade
Otobo also reiterate that” We are now in the era of change, and change must
start from us as an individual. We decided to come out collectively as a union
to make impact in the society and that is why we also went out to do
environmental sanitation to tell the people it is good to keep our environment
clean”.
He
further noted that, today we are also at the orphanage home to give to the
orphans, we want to share from the little we have, and with these, love will
spread and radiate around, he noted.
Comrade
Otobo also pointed out that, some of the challenges facing the Nigeria Union of
Tailors, according to him, “The equipments we are using are obsolete, they are
not modern and we don’t we don’t have access to good equipments to enable us
follow the modern trend of fashion and design. If we can have access to modern
equipments Delta State will be the leading state in
Fashion and design”.
He
also frowned at the manner the state government is collecting numerous taxes
from them. “ Everyday you see different groups coming to us all in the name of
taxes and this is scaring people away from doing their job especially this
period of recession, people have not being able to pay their store rent. And we
have to discover that some of them are fake and we are calling on the state
government to checkmate them”.
Also
speaking to newsmen the State Secretary of the Union, Comrade Richard Ewhre
said that, Nigeria Union of Tailors is the only umbrella body that covers the
whole tailors or fashion and design in the state and it is also the highest
self-employed body in Delta State.
According
to him, before now when you called NUT people think it is Nigeria Union of Teachers,
but we are making them realize that NUT is Nigeria Union of Tailors. Actually
God was the first tailor when He clothed Adam and Eve and as children of God
and we are copying God.
Comrade
Ewhre also asserted that, coming to the orphanage home today is unique to mark
the tailors week, you can see how the children are jumping and happy. This
group is not sponsored by the government. What we brought today in individually
contributed.
He
therefore charge the Delta State to always carry them along in all the
activities that will benefit the Union been the highest self–employed Union in
the state.
The
one week long event ended with a novelty match between Irri NUT and Oleh NUT at
the Isoko Central Primary School, Oleh and the scores was 1-1. And there was a
thanksgiving service which was held at the Anglican Diocese Cathedral, Oleh.
