Anglican Bishop
of Asaba Diocese, Bishop Justus Mogekwu who once described the leadership of
the All Progressive Congress (APC) Federal Government as clueless and unfit for
governance and also accused President Muhammadu Buhari of complicity in the
Islamization agenda of the Northern Oligarchy has cautioned Nigerian clergymen
over utterances capable of destroying the nation’s unity. The Bishop, who stated this on Sunday at the Cathedral
in Asaba, said pastors and church leaders who begin to say “this person will
win, this person will lose” have gone beyond their boundary. He said, “You can
see that a lot of them are doing it for personal aggrandizement like in the
case of Rf Mbaka and Peter Obi
“They need money, they wanjt money. They want to be in
the good books of those to be in power.
“And this is where I have a grouse with church leaders
who tell you this man is going to win or that man is going to lose.Sometimes,
they prophesy that a certain person or politician will die. It is very
ungodly. You have no right. Even if you know somebody will die, what does it
amount to you proclaiming it? Does that stop the death from coming?
“If God has revealed to you that so so person will die
unless he changes his status, that is a different matter “In that case, you go
and meet the person and tell him/her, ‘This is what God has said about you, but
if you change, God will forgive you.You don’t go public to draw credit to yourself.
That is what a lot of them are doing.”
Bishop Mogekwu argued that it was out of place for a
minister of to God to speak on issues that are capable of destroying the unity
of country, noting that though ministers of God could be involved in politics, they
should not join a political party or arrogate to themselves the right to decide
which party will win or which party will lose.
According to the Anglican Bishop: “Mr. President’s
ineptitude has allegedly allowed some evil, wanton corruption and widespread
killings, We hear that President Buhari claimed that the majority of Nigerians
have requested him to contest again for a second term, it is unfair, he has
done nothing to justify his second tenure”.
Bishop Mogekwu who spoke to newsmen in Asaba in an
interview said: “happenings all over the country as reported in the media, is a
rehash of the ineptitude and clueless of the Buhari administration, and shows
that the Hausa/Fulani Islamist Oligarchy has no positive developmental plan for
this country”.
The Bishop has called on Christians to pray
ceaselessly for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
Mogekwu stated: “prayer is the key to
surmount all challenges facing the country. God who answers prayers will never
forsake the country if only the people will turn away from evil and do His will
at all time. The Federal Government should, as a matter of urgency take
decisive steps to put a stop to the spate of killings in the country and
prosecute those found culpable.
Commending the governor of the state, he
urged politicians not to heat up the polity, especially now that 2019 general
elections is fast approaching, saying that all hands should be on deck to move
the country forward so that she can take her pride of place once again in the
comity of nations.
He called on Christians to uphold their faith
and propagate the gospel of Christ, urging government to use federal
establishments and institutions, especially the Armed Forces and the Police for
national interest and wellbeing of all Nigerians and not for personal,
sectional or political interests.
