Of all the political
gladiators contesting to represent Delta South Senatorial District of Delta
State at the National Assembly at the forthcoming general elections in 2019,
one name that prominently stand out and towers above the rest contestants is
that of His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, the immediate past
governor of the oil-rich state.
For the greatest
majority of the people of Delta South Senatorial District and the state in
general, the candidature of Dr. Uduaghan is a welcome development and great
delight. To the people of the District, it would be pay-back time and a
commensurate reward for Dr. Uduaghan, who is credited with great leadership
strides and legacy achievements while he was governor of the state between 2007
and 2015. He had been tested with power and is found competent for the
higher national assignment.
It will be an
understatement to say that Dr. Uduaghan in his eight years in office as
governor institutionalized far-reaching socio-economic reforms and as well
provided critical infrastructures for the progress of the state. He was a man
of the people while his governorship tenures lasted.
Most Deltans in all
sincerity will continue to remember those revolutionary years when Uduaghan
brought positive infrastructural developments to all parts of the state and
most importantly his fight for the headlong tackling of militancy in the
state.
To those who know Dr.
Uduaghan and what he represents in the trajectory of Delta State and its
developmental narratives, and in his usual political will and characteristics,
he is certainly going to Abuja to attract more robust development to his
people through quality representation on the floor of the Senate in addition to
helping in ensuring good and forward-looking legislations for the growth and
democratic stability of the nation.
Many political pundits
believe that the former governor, who is contesting the senatorial seat on the
platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is very suitable and
ably qualified for the seat in view of his political pedigree over time.
Undoubtedly, this
medical doctor-turned politician, who was also the cerebral Secretary to Delta
state government at one point in the life of the state is not going to warm the
seat in Abuja, but to initiate progressive bills that would be impactful to the
people of the senatorial district, Delta State, the Niger Delta Region and the
nation at large.
To many progressive
citizens of the state and Senatorial district, the belief is that it is indeed
the right time to change the docile representation the people had witnessed
since the birth of the forth Republic in 1999 with the emergence of Dr.
Uduaghan.
The people are unanimous
in their views that the time for a new face to take the Senatorial District to
the next Level of qualitative and robust representation is now, and
that Dr.Uduaghan is the right man for the job.
They strongly believe
that one cannot be doing the same thing for over nineteen years and expect
to get a different result. Only a breath of fresh air and personality change
will bring the desired change to the Itsekiri, isoko and Ijaw people of the
Senatorial district.
With this mindset and
belief, the people are in high spirit and in one accord with Uduaghan's
candidature. It has been a gale of endorsement among the various groups in the
Senatorial District.
Indeed, Uduaghan whose
candidature has received the nod and blessings of the traditional institutions,
religious leaders, political leaders of different divides, market men and
women, traders, professionals, the academia, students and youths, artisans,
traders, transporters, fishermen and women, farmers, workers and the generality
in the grassroots across the Senatorial District will definitely live to the
expectations of the people who have much trust in his personality
and integrity. For a man with enormous experience in the medical
profession and public service, the people are in for a good deal as he hinged
his manifestoes on attracting more infrastructural growth, human capital
development and empowerment to the people of the district.
The former governor, who
recently decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), advised the
electorates in the Senatorial district to change the old order which had not
been beneficial to the people. He urged them to embrace the APC as a political
party to make the desired progress in the lives of the people.
The optimism is high
that the people of Delta South Senatorial District with their Permanent Voters
Cards (PVCs) will vote in Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan who had been politically
tested and found to be competent, reliable and up to the task as their Senator
in next year's general elections.
He remains the leading
light to illuminate the political space of Delta South Senatorial District and
we are convinced that he will not disappoint his teeming supporters and the
generality of his people come 2019.
