It was with mixed feelings of joy
and longing that the Uzehor family of Igbide Town in Isoko South council area
of Delta state, on November 24, laid to rest their beloved matriarch, Mrs.
Comfort Udugba Uzehor.
Mama Ozehor, fondly called
Oni-igarri (mama garri), had passed on to the great beyond on 23rd
September 2018, after a brief illness. She was aged 76.
The burial ceremony which had
leaders and family members from various quarters of the community, as well as
guests from all walks of life, saw a rich display of culture and tradition.
In his tribute, Mr. Kenneth Ozehor,
the eldest of mama's six children, described her mother as "the best
mother anyone could have", adding that though a big void has been left by
her death, they have learned to appreciate the life lessons instilled in them
by their mother.
Recalling days of his childhood,
Benson Ozehor, the second son, stated that notable attributes of his mother
were "integrity and generosity".
He said: "there was no lock to
my mother's kitchen. She would cook and leave the kitchen open because she knew
one of her foster children will come in.
"She will not beat you. When
you make a mistake, she will talk you
out of it and explain the consequences of
a repeated occurrence of that thing. And you will really never want to break
her trust because once you do, you can't
open her kitchen to eat again.
"That was a guiding principle
for most of the kids that fed from my mother's pot. They knew they had to tell
the truth all the time. Her integrity is something she has bequeathed to all of
us (children). But I don't think we can match her generosity. She was not
wealthy but she gave all."
Other children of the deceased
includes Mrs. Ozehor-Jacto, Messrs. Michael, Simon and Morrison
