IDU Warri solicits funds for Cultural House, inaugurates patrons, patroness

... Inaugurates Edor, Akarogbe, Eta, Oyibotha, others as patrons, matrons

President of the Isoko Development Union (IDU) Warri branch, Prince Agbakara Greg, has called on the two local councils in Isoko nation, as well as other well-meaning individuals, to support the building of the Isoko Cultural Centre.

Speaking to the council's representatives, Barr. Vote Umukoro, Isoko North secretary general and Hon. Beatrice Oyibotha, a councillor in Isoko South, Sunday, October 8, during the 2017 Isoko Day anniversary and investiture of patrons and patronesses of the branch, at the centre in Warri, Agbakara pointed out that the building was started 28 years ago and was still at decking level when his administration took over.

Appreciating Hon. Eta Enahoro, Surv. Peter Akarogbe, Bishop Pius Odioko, Barr. Agbama, Engr. Idodo snr. for their contributions thus far, he stated that poor funding has been a limiting factor to the completion of the project which has reached roofing level.

"In fact, much has been accomplished through prudency, accountability and financial management techniques. It is however expedient to note that much is yet to be done. There is urgent need to consider the interlocking of the premises and the PVC ceiling of the top hall," the president said.

Highlight of the event was the inauguration of the patrons who include Chief Greg Edor, Surv. Peter Akarogbe, Chief Engr. Jerry Okokowa, Chief Nicodemus Okweha and Sir Reuben Ukuevo. While the matrons are Chief (Mrs.) Uwomano Eta, Hon. Oyibotha and Chief (Mrs.) Suleiman.

In another development, elite socio-cultural group, Isoko United Club, has announced the kickoff of its annual scholarship programme.

Presenting the forms to Prince Agbakara, the representative of the club emphasized that filled forms be submitted by November at allow commencement of the screening exercise.

Other persons at the event are former president of IDU Warri branch, Dr. , Comr. Felida Essi, publisher of Isoko Mirror; Evang. Ohworakpo Moses, Dr Francis Ofo, Hon Vote Umukoro executive members and other members of the branch.
