Independence
Day in Nigeria has lost its glory and the usual developmental impacts on the
masses because something is missing. The general overseer and founder of Christ
Chosen Deliverance Church Apostle Thompson O. Oki made the statement during
Nigeria’s 57th Independence Day celebration message to his
congregation at Irri, Isoko South local government of Delta State.

The
cleric stated that over the years, successive government in Nigeria has
deviated from the true Democracy to personal sentiments and individual
aggrandizement. He added that the usual excitement associated with Independence
Day celebration in Nigeria has been jettison due to greed and lost of focus by
our leaders.
Apostle
Oki said,” corruption and bad governance has changed Independence celebration
from what it was in the 1980’s to ordinary remembrance without value”. In a message
titled “Something Is Missing in Nigeria”, taken from Luke 19: 1 – 5, Oki
admonished Christians to be prayerful and discover what is missing from Nigeria
and take back its lost glory, just as Zaccheus discovered his fraudulent way of
life and asked Jesus Christ for repentance.
Oki
enjoined Nigerians to stop the hate speech attitude, noting that hatred leads
to hate speeches which can plunge the country economy on the part of
retrogression. He emphasized that hatred was not found in the early church,
stressing that it could lead the country into abject poverty. The clergy man
urged Nigerians to retrace their steps and live righteous life.
Apostle
Oki said, the recovered loots have not made any good impact on the Nigerian
economy because of bad governance. He urged Nigeria leaders to listen to the
cry of the masses on the way forward to ensure that dividends of Democracy get
to the ordinary Nigerians in the streets.
He
warned that until Nigeria leaders look for what is missing and get solution for
the ailing economy; Nigerians will continue to wait for the unknown. Oki prayed
for divine restoration from the present predicament facing the country,
emphasizing that Nigeria must go back to real independent Nation and not to be
dependent on other countries.
