Delta State Governor,
Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has reassured Deltans that his administration will
continue to create the enabling environment for the development of sports in
the state through encouraging and harnessing grassroot talents.
While witnessing the
grand finale of the annual Owa-Alero football competition, which took place at
Iroro Primary School field, Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area,
on the 2nd January 2019, Governor Okowa, who was represented by the
Commissioner for Information, Ogbueshi Patrick Ukah, commended the
participating teams for the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited throughout the
competition.

He commended the
organizers of the tournament for their initiatives in organizing the tournament
under a peaceful and conducive atmosphere, even as he hoped that beyond the
general elections, his administration will continue to support the development
of grassroot sports in the state.
Present at the
ceremony were the State Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof. Eric Eboh, who
presented medals to first runners-up, the Director of Protocol to the Governor,
Hon. Ifeanyi Eboigbe, the sponsor of the second edition of the Competition, Mr.
Donatus Aimufua, and other illustrious sons of the state.
In a chat with newsmen,
one of the players, Johnson Erute, said he felt fulfilled to have lifted the
trophy, even as he remained grateful to the sponsor of the championship,
stressing that Governor Okowa should be given a second chance to consolidate on
the good works he began in 2015.
Highlights of the
keenly contested competition was the presentation of medals and trophy to
deserving teams as well as musical performance by an indigene of the community
based abroad in praise of Senator Okowa’s sterling leadership as Governor of
Delta State.
