News reaching us is that a
middle-aged woman, Bola Obamoyegun, whose two sons are currently serving terms
in prison, is among 29 suspects of various crimes paraded by the police in
Ekiti State. Among the suspects paraded also on Tuesday by the
Commissioner of Police, Mr Amba Asuquo, was Dele Obamoyegun, 27, who is another
son of Bola’s sons. Dele was arrested along with five other suspects for
alleged armed robbery, murder and cultism while his mother was nabbed for
“conspiracy, armed robbery and receiving stolen property.”
According
to CP Amba Asuquo, “it was revealed from an investigation that some of the
properties stolen by the suspects are Dele’s share from the proceeds of armed
robbery operating carried out by his gang.”
Mrs Obamoyegun admitted to
newsmen that her sons are serving terms for Crimes she didn’t disclose and also
admitted that Dele is her son. She also claimed that “only one plasma TV set
was what her son brought home,” and added that “nearly all the 10 mobile
handsets they found in my house are not working.” According to CP
Asuquo, the six-man robbery gang, to which Dele belonged, also allegedly
admitted to killing a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Michael
Adedeji. He gave the names of the other all-male gang members as I1, dowu
Sunday aka Longer, 25; Adeniyi Wumi, aka Wumi Woro, 23; Leye Ojo, aka Danku,
26; Akindahunsi Damilola, aka Akure, 22; and Olaosebikan Babatunde, 48.
Forty-year-old
Hon Adedeji, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker that represented Ekiti
South West Constituency II, was shot in the head on August 10, 2018, at GRA,
Ado Ekiti capital city and died a few days later.
Asuquo said he had confessed
to the crime and had also admitted to killing one Kayode Omowaye when they
raided OJAS Pleasure Hotels in Oye Ekiti also on August 10, 2018. He said
exhibits recovered from the suspects were cut-to-size barrel guns; 17 live
cartridges; 75 handsets, seven laptop computers, cash sum of N147,000; four
stolen vehicles, one of which he said belonged to the late Omowaye, among other
exhibits. The CP said the suspects were arrested by men and
officers of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) during a stop and search
operation at Ado-Iworoko road. Dele Obamoyegun, who said he’s the gang leader,
told newsmen that “we shot Adedeji after robbing him. He did not struggle with
us but one of us just shot him. I have to confess, we didn’t know he was a
lawmaker.”
The
Ekiti CP said what was most disturbing was that Dele’s mother, Bola was “the
one accepting and concealing stolen items for the robbery gang being led by her
son,” and added that the robbery gang also invaded Afe Babalola University
(ABUAD) junior staff quarters and snatched a car belonging to one Mrs Bosede
Ojo.
